Summary You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Fleet Dept of NAVENPVNTMEDU 2 NORFOLK. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense. Responsibilities You will conduct inspections and investigations related to industrial hygiene and other tasks assigned by the unit Officer in Charge. You will plan, schedule, and conduct baseline and periodic comprehensive industrial hygiene surveys for assigned customer commands. You will assist the IH Division Officer in the day-to-day management of Division workload. You will serve as the command Collateral Duty Safety Officer (CDSO) and Respiratory Protection Program Manager (RPPM). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying quantitative and qualitative methods, measurement, fact finding, and investigative techniques. Experience developing the competencies of others to perform and contribute to the organization using a learning environment with formal and informal methods. Experience utilizing science within the field of occupational health and safety focusing on environmental conditions/stresses in or from the workplace which may cause workers' harm. Experience developing and presenting findings, reports or recommendations. Experience developing policy and analyzing Department of Defense, Federal OSHA and applicable international health and safety regulations, policies and procedures. Experience planning, designing, and implementing new biological studies and projects using data and preparing reports. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess. A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH). Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
