Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County Nutrition Educator Assistant in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, New York
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention (SNAP-Ed) Nutrition Educator Assistant will primarily be responsible for delivering established SNAP-Ed public education programming to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among families and individuals of all age groups throughout the Long Island SNAP-Ed Region. This position will also assist with marketing efforts for SNAP-Ed programming in collaboration with other nutrition educators in the SNAP-Ed region. Given the geographic location of this position, many of the constituents will be Spanish-speaking individuals, so bilingual skills are required.
Funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program is through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Federal Food and Nutrition Services (FNS).
Required Qualifications:
Associate degree in Nutrition, Health Education, or Public Health or equivalent. GED/High School Diploma plus one year of transferrable program/functional experience is acceptable. Experience relevant to the role of the position. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends. Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment and climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to communicate clearly (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English. Ability to communicate clearly (speak, read, and write proficiently) in Spanish. Ability to present effective educational lessons to target audiences and work with diverse audiences of all ages. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic computer and word processing skills. Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the community where the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community. Familiarity with purchasing and preparing foods. Familiarity with reviewing and following recipes and ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines. Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor. POSITION DETAILS:
Salary: $24.00 Per Hour
Hour: Part-time positions (0-20 hours per week)
Dates: Open until filled
