Job Summary and Qualifications

The Senior BI Analyst is a part of the Risk & Insurance organization of HCA. This technically analytical focused position within the IT/Business Intelligence department (part of the Finance team) is responsible for the interpretation and understanding of claims data information. This individual will develop strategy for claims data quality improvements. They will leverage existing reports, develop new insights to analyze business problems, and identify claim trends across the enterprise specifically focused on loss prevention and exposure mitigation. In addition the position will measure individual claim manager performance to identify opportunities to identify early resolution and as a result gain better control indemnity payment and drive down claim expenses.

This goal will be achieved by working with cross-functional business teams and utilizing Power BI, other analytic reporting tools, and the group’s Risk Management Information System. The Senior BI Analyst is responsible for actively participating in the analysis of multiple aspects of the BI lifecycle from requirements to data analysis, report analysis, and understanding of business processes.

The Senior BI Analyst will collaborate with fellow Risk & Insurance team members, clinical subject matter experts and fellow data scientists. The Senior BI Analyst will ensure a standardized and consistent approach relating to BI report participation and implementation of Data Governance, and Analytics.

General Responsibilities

Technical:

  • Work assignments are advanced/complex in nature; accountable for major projects. Impact corporate wide engagement with facility-level resources to group-level leadership.

  • This individual will lead in all aspects of the BI lifecycle from requirements to data integrity, data analysis, report analysis, and understanding of business processes.

  • Assume subject matter expert responsibilities in developing appropriate strategies, plans, tools and approaches to ensure successful adoption of BI reports, dashboards and scorecards.

  • Think analytically and critically to lead reporting standardization and automation efforts.

  • Generate and prepare reports, scorecards, and dashboards to support business objectives.

  • Ensure a standardized and consistent approach relating to BI participation and implementation of Data Governance, Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytics.

  • Think analytically and critically to lead reporting standardization and automating efforts.

  • Use, analyze, and support BI applications and analytical tools, evaluate data quality, applications, and workflow functions.

  • Format, run, distribute, and interpret reports using the available tools.

  • Provide in depth “what if” analysis of data using available tools.

  • Escalate to and collaborate with leadership on program issues and risks to identify solutions.

  • Assist in analysis of BI Reporting architecture and report creation, analysis of guided analytics, and other BI solutions.

  • Produces BI solution designs that will meet business requirements in a manner consistent with Company and industry standards.

  • Present data formally and informally and facilitate discussion regarding data outputs.

  • Participate and leads in multi-disciplinary teams to use data in improving usage and operational workflow.

  • Provide moderate analysis and ad hoc operational reports as requested by Group, Division, and Corporate leaders.

Education:

  • Develop professionally to take a lead in one or more of the activities listed above and show willingness to provide hands-on technical leadership for development projects.

  • Learn the importance of different aspects of HCA’s health care operations and HCI’s insurance area and demonstrate that understanding.

  • Utilize internal and external training opportunities to cross train on other Business Intelligence tools and database platforms such as Power BI, Origami, Business Objects, Microsoft Analysis Services, Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, Teradata, etc.

  • Grow professionally to assume greater responsibilities for the activities listed above and demonstrate hands-on technical capability for development projects.

Relationship and Team Building:

  • Exchange detailed information across department, organization/enterprise; communicates independently, thorough understanding of organizational data, sharing technical and clinical expertise or providing direction/instruction.

  • Provide assistance for BI reporting solutions to the rest of the Risk & Insurance group. Provision of the guidance takes a number of forms, including: engaging in joint-development with various application development teams, providing second-level to Customer Service and primary support to the rest of the Risk & Insurance group, documenting and communicating standards and procedures, developing and delivering internal training & certification programs, and assisting problem analysis/resolution.

  • Develop and drive the implementation of management reporting best practices and standards for the team.

  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate solutions where additional data and subject expertise is required.

  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary teams using data to improve usage and operational workflow.

Desired Technical Skills:

  • Fully competent professional with in-depth knowledge of clinical data, analytics and data science.

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in large-scale reporting development projects (ad hoc and standard queries).

  • Demonstrated broad SQL development experience with solid understanding of relational and multi-dimensional designs.

  • Experience with Teradata and SQL Server.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Experience in an Agile BI Reporting development self-service environment is required.

  • Experience with BI tool architectures, functions, and features desired.

  • Detailed working knowledge with clinical and operational data within a healthcare system.

Desired Professional Skills:

  • Preferred detailed working knowledge of the health care industry, applications, clinical workflow issues, regulatory compliance and federal mandates preferred.

  • Possesses interpersonal skills to work in a high profile and fast paced team.

  • Technical aptitude to learn and adapt to new industry applications and tools.

  • Works independently, receives minimal guidance and acts as a mentor and provides direction to colleagues with less experience.

  • Ability to communicate and facilitate topics clearly and effectively across department lines; working inside peer groups and receiving guidance from supervisor.

  • Demonstrated oral, written and technical communication skills required.

  • Demonstrated presentation/public speaking skills and experience required. Possesses good organizational as well as visual and verbal presentation skills.

  • Ability to establish and consistently meet delivery dates.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree, required

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

  • 1+ years of management, leadership experience
