This Opportunity

Provides guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, assessment, and environmental permitting projects. Ensures environmental project elements and processes are conveyed and acted upon with a high level of quality and compliance. Responsible for providing situational guidance to other PMs and clients that address current and future environmental challenges, and that documentation and recommendations accurately account for and address long-term risks to ecological and human health. Leads environmental site assessments, corrective strategies, classification of contaminated materials, and treatment, disposal, and/or onsite remediation activities to avert degradation of air, water, and land resources. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact

  • Perform professional environmental work and conduct investigations and inspections of air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, commercial and industrial operations, pollution sources and proposed and existing site conditions, water resources, and underground storage tanks to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.

  • Lead environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).

  • Provide oversight with data collection efforts for collecting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.

  • Oversee the analysis of literature, laboratory samples, and other sources of information to uncover primary, secondary, and tertiary environmental impacts.

  • Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of environmental problems and programs.

  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to address, prevent, control, or restore more complex or larger-scale environmental problems.

  • Oversee cross-functional teams in executing project work, permitting strategy, environmental assessments, and regulatory strategy, ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and when, preparing proposals and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.

  • Participate in the application process for environmental permits to address issues or concerns – undertaking any resulting corrective strategies to minimize impacts to the health of the environment and the population.

  • Provide high level oversight for desk-based research, fieldwork, and/or laboratory work, including measurements, data interpretation, and computer modeling.

  • Coordinate with clients, resource agencies, and environmental and technical staff, providing a high level of strategic advice and subject matter expertise.

  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.

  • Remain current in latest environmental regulations and techniques.

  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Remain current in latest environmental science subject matter and techniques.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.

  • 5-7 years of relevant post education experience.

  • Proficient with environmental principles, practices, and methods and their application to project work-related issues.

  • Extensive knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Demonstrated technical competence leading environmental projects within business sector (e.g. commercial, infrastructure, energy, etc.).

  • Well-defined experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards.

  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.

  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally.

  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels.

  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Proficiency with technical and business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

  • Extensive critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • Essential professional licensure/certification preferred or ability to achieve licensure/certification after the hire date.

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
