Position Description
The Recreation Leader is a full time Civil Service position with the Metro Parks and Recreation Department and is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting recreational or sports activities. Applicants must be able to work with diverse populations and be available to work in any location.
The work locations for these positions are often in inner-city areas and require working evenings and some weekends. This classification works in both an indoor and outdoor environment.
This list will be used to fill vacancies at various locations as vacancies occur.
Metro's Parks and Recreation Department has something for everyone through its variety of strategically placed facilities and programs. Parks offers cultural arts and fitness classes, dog parks and nature programs and 16,000 acres of open space, including 121 parks and 19 greenways. Ice hockey, sports leagues, art galleries and much more are among the offerings. Parks is a fun place where there's always something going on.

Typical Duties
Leading various groups in indoor/outdoor recreation and sports activities.
Coaching team sports.
Developing and leading games and activities for patrons of all ages and abilities.
Providing front desk services including greeting customers, answering phones, collecting fees, receipting admissions and other operational revenue using a computer point of sale system, and checking out recreational equipment.
Supervising facility and patrons, maintaining order, and enforcing discipline procedures.
Keeping records pertaining to attendance, programs, etc.
Administering basic first aid in cases of minor injury.
Transporting patrons and/or chaperoning children on special outings.
Performing various repairs, maintenance and housekeeping duties to ensure high standards of facility cleanliness and operational equipment.
May oversee the work assignments of part-time and/or seasonal staff or volunteers.
Taking reservations and registration for programs.
Providing public information as requested.
Submit requests for equipment and repairs.
Employees must be physically capable of participating in recreational activities.
Employees should be proficient in the ability to use computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience coaching, organizing or supervising recreational activities.
LICENSE REQUIRED:
Valid driver license
This position requires a pre-appointment drug test, and is subject to random drug testing.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Two (2) years of college
