Position Description
This position provides HIV pre and post-test counseling at the Downtown Detention Center located at 448 Second Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37201.
This position will work nights from 4:30pm to 1:00am.
Typical Duties
Provides educational information regarding STD/HIV in order to increase community awareness, knowledge, and prevention.
Provides direct services in a clinic, non-clinical, correctional, and non-traditional setting.
Conducts pre and post-test counseling services for patients taking an HIV test.
Counsel’s patients on HIV and STD prevention measures, test results, program services, and procedural guidelines.
Assist/provide oral swab screening via HIV OraQuick and assist/provide screening for gonorrhea and chlamydia.
Accurately and promptly documents services and observations in the client’s record.
Collect laboratory specimens as needed; attends training and in-service classes as appropriate.
Gain support and cooperation of public officials, community groups and agencies relative to health information concerns.
Assists in the development, promotion and implementation of a variety of health information, STD / HIV screenings, and education programs.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma.
Effective written and oral communications skills, group presentation skills and ability to operate audio-visual equipment.
Must be able to work a regular schedule consistently.
Must be willing to submit and able to pass Davidson County Sheriff’s Office background check as condition of employment.
Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
College degree.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Familiarity with venipuncture.
History of working with diverse populations and working as member of interdisciplinary team.
