Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Description:

The TriStar Food & Nutrition Prep Cook is a skilled professional responsible for preparing food, maintaining cleanliness, and organizing supplies within the Food & Nutrition Department. This role is committed to providing exceptional customer service to patients and staff.

Essential Functions

Note: The following is not an exhaustive list of all duties required for this position.

General Essential Functions:

  1. Perform specific competencies listed on the Competency Checklist, meeting annual performance goals/objectives outlined in the Performance Management Plan.

  2. Integrate ethics into all areas of practice, adhering to confidentiality and patients' rights policies.

  3. Support the facility’s mission and values.

  4. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Functions:

I. Quality/Regulatory

  • Food Safety (HACCP) & Sanitation: Use systems to comply with food safety (HACCP) and department sanitation.

  • Patient Safety: Follow processes to ensure patient safety.

  • Employee Safety: Adhere to OSHA guidelines.

  • Security: Use systems to ensure department security.

  • Infection Control: Implement infection control practices.

  • HIPAA: Comply with HIPAA guidelines.

II. Human Resources

  • Recruitment: Assist in the hiring process of potential employees.

  • Education, Development & Retention: Complete self-competencies and maintain professional, productive work behavior.

  • Time & Attendance: Follow Time & Attendance policies and employee schedules.

III. Finance

  • Food & Supply Cost: Use cost control processes to meet goals and reduce waste.

  • Purchasing & Compliance: Comply with vendor and product compliance goals and maintain proper inventory levels.

IV. Service

  • Patient Service: Achieve patient satisfaction goals.

  • Retail Service: Achieve customer satisfaction goals.

  • Doctors Lounge Service: Meet physician lounge objectives.

  • Catering Service: Achieve catering goals.

  • Culinary: Use proper equipment and quality standards in food production.

  • Service Recovery: Resolve customer complaints and report to the appropriate superior.

V. Technology

  • HCA/Computer Systems: Utilize HCA hardware and software.

  • HCA/Computrition: Utilize Computrition software.

  1. Complete work within acceptable time limits, setting priorities effectively.

  3. Ensure accuracy and completeness of work.

  4. Maintain a clean, organized work area.

  5. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of work practices, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment to protect self and others from chemical and infectious hazards.

  2. Adjust schedule according to workload fluctuations, seeking additional tasks during light work situations.

Education / Development

  1. Learn new procedures and protocols, demonstrating thorough knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures.

  2. Complete annual mandatory In-Service requirements and Healthstream trainings, and attend department meetings (or review and sign minutes when unable to attend).

  3. Assume responsibility for continued professional development.

Education & Experience:

  • 1 year of food handling experience (Preferred)

Licenses, Certifications, & Training:

  • Food Handlers or ServSafe Certificate within 90 days of hire (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of patient safety principles, methods, standards, and regulatory requirements, with experience in patient safety analysis techniques, including root cause analysis, cause and effect analysis, and failure mode and effect analysis (Required)

  • Knowledge of HACCP guidelines for assembling and distributing food supplies to ensure quality and safety (Required)

  • Ability to use database software for entering, retrieving, sorting, and filtering information as necessary for reporting (Preferred)

In addition, we are equipped with 3 helipads, new ICU and Medical/Surgical floors, and burn care services. We offer a CARF accredited Inpatient Rehabilitation program and are an ACS verified Level II Trauma Center.
