Job Summary and Qualifications

The nurse manager is responsible for the 24/7 operations of assigned departments including education and supervision of staff that provide direct and indirect patient care on their assigned unit, S/he manages financial aspects of the assigned unit(s), including but not limited to use of man-hours, equipment, and supplies. The nurse manager coordinates dept work flow processes to assure patients receive quality care from all departments and that resources are efficiently utilized. He/she leads and participates in department and hospital-wide Performance Improvement activities. S/he monitors and seeks assistance when needed for the assigned units’ issues especially regarding ethical and legal concerns.

What you will do in this role:

  • You will develop performance plans, identify performance issues, and manage performance and career development.

  • Your role approves and contributes to in-service education programs for assigned staff.

  • You will coordinate the educational activities of staff; communicate new/revised protocols, guidelines, and standards to assigned staff as changes occur.

  • You will manage and coordinate the activities of Nursing and Support Staff of assigned units to ensure patient care is provided in accordance with the established standards and legal requirements.

  • Your role ensures that continuity of care is maintained during all shifts of the unit providing 24-hour patient care.

  • You will ensure appropriate staffing is provided for all shifts of operation for responsible units.

  • You will monitor, evaluate, and modify staffing patterns to properly utilize assigned staff to provide patient care in assigned areas; prepare and modify work schedules as needed to ensure adequate coverage of all shifts; approve paid time off, sick time, and leave of absence requirements for assigned staff.

  • Your role coordinates quality activities for assigned areas; ensures that unit standards and monitoring procedures are consistent with the goals and objectives of facility’s quality programs.

  • You will perform daily rounding to ensure patient satisfaction criteria are being met and to monitor and evaluate employee performance.

  • Your role investigates, resolves, and documents the resolution of complaints or incidents.

  • You will communicate with various departments to coordinate services, resolve operational issues, and improve quality of patient care.

  • You will provide input into and manage budget/financial operations for areas of responsibility.

  • You will continuously review processes for operational improvement and efficiencies.

  • You will support the facility’s Standards of Performance and ICARE values.

  • You will act as a liaison to/for medical staff caring for patients on assigned units.

  • You will successfully complete annual reviews and competencies on all employees.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Current RN license in TN or other approved compact state

  • 2 or more years demonstrated leadership experience, 4 or more years clinical experience

  • BSN required, or obtained within 2 years of hire

  • ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification preferred at hire, required within one year of hire

  • BLS within time frames allowed by facility

  • Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with external and internal customers

  • ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Provider must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date

  • Bone Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN), or Certified Orthopedic Nurse (ONC) must be obtained within 2 years of employment start date
