Jackson National Life Insurance Company Lead Software Solutions Designer - Cloud in Nashville, Tennessee

Job Purpose

Finds system efficiencies and expertly designs, coordinates, and delivers state-of-the-art programming capabilities and a wide range of engineering solutions in a cloud computing environment. The incumbent oversees the transitions of all components from conception to production. This individual evaluates external and technical specifications, implements system designs, and monitors testing and implementation support. Also, effectively mentors and directs programmers and maintains the primary relationships with the business users.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains expertise in more than one major system, expertly coordinates the interaction of auxiliary systems, proactively prevents system deficiencies and implements solutions.

  • Serves as subject matter expert for architectural frameworks, methods, analysis and diagnosis.

  • Leads multiple architecture development assignments and advises programmers and systems engineers in architecture disciplines.

  • Creates and maintains technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and execution, and writes and enforces coding standards.

  • Coordinates the activities of others (internal staff, client staff, subcontractors, suppliers) and manages stakeholder expectations and requirements.

  • Mentors less experienced team members.

  • Applies the standard development methodology process to all projects.

  • Seeks and participates in development opportunities and maintains knowledge in field of expertise.

Other Duties

  • Provides scheduled on-call 24x7 system support on a rotational basis.

  • May participate in the evaluation and recommendation of new technology.

  • Presents information to clients and peers.

  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Successful completion of an analytical aptitude exam.

  • Mastery of at least one of the following languages: C#, Node.js, Java, SQL, etc.

  • Solid experience in the development of event driven architectures, APIs and single page web applications.

  • Familiarity in cloud computing environments such as AWS and/or Azure

  • Experience with cloud native technologies such as PaaS and serverless based application services such as Azure Functions or Azure App Service

  • Demonstrated record of successful, complex cross-system implementations.

  • Solid experience applying methodologies to design and implement projects.

  • Solid knowledge of application security concepts such as authentication, authorization and encryption

  • Familiarity with common security vulnerabilities such as SQL injection, XSS, CSRF and other OWASP top 10 risks etc.

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects in a changing technical environment.

  • Ability to solve complex problems and develop technical and business solutions.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to lead others through projects.

  • Strong analytical ability.

  • Ability to convert business requirements to appropriate system designs with flexibility and extensibility.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment to achieve desired results.

  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and/or education required.

  • 8+ years of relevant experience required.

  • Financial services experience and professional insurance designations preferred.

  • Experience in software design and implementation for complex systems required.
