Title: Inventory and Safety Assistant

OVERALL GOALS 

  • Implement and enforce a safety management program throughout the hospital 

  • Assist with inventory processing, organizing and regular audits.  

GENERAL PURPOSE 

The Inventory/Safety Assistant will: 

  • Coordinate the implementation of safety systems in the hospital to promote workplace safety policies and procedures. 

  • Radiology Safety, MRI Safety, CT Safety, & Active Surveillance Programs 

  • Assess, oversee, and coordinate occupational safety and health programs utilizing knowledge of safety and operating procedures, policies, and regulations.  

  • Inventory associate will provide support by assisting Inventory Manager in maintaining Cubex, ensuring pharmaceutical stock, and daily/quarterly inventory cycle counting. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Safety 

  • Maintenance 

  • Stock first aid boxes and PPE supplies 

  • Dosimetry badge, radiology PPE and additional supplies maintenance and monitoring.  

  • Oversee and process quarterly culture and sensitivity surveillance, monitoring outbreaks, adjusting cleaning protocols as needed. 

  • Training 

  • Introduce staff to safety compliance policies throughout the hospital and monitor compliance. 

  • Continuing Education 

  • Ensure compliance with federal & state regulations and requirements as needed. 

  • Administrative 

  • Record keeping on all federal and state government required actions, SDS updates, and manifest paperwork.  

  • OSHA-required postings are displayed in the hospital at all locations.  

  • Knowledge of Incident reports and develop actions plans with leadership on areas of concern. 

Inventory 

  • Maintenance 

  • Maintains inventory in storage locations and request low stock items as needed 

  • Assist with troubleshooting Cubex, providing support with malfunctions including manual logging during outages. 

  • Review inventory regularly and report expired products and drugs to Inventory Manager. 

  • Training 

  • Assist Inventory Manager as needed for staff training and compliance 

  • Continuing Education 

  • Support hospital staff by filling prescriptions with appropriate labeling and packaging when required 

  • Progressive learning of controlled medications, storage requirements and logging procedures 

  • Administrative 

  • Communicates with staff regarding backorders, outages of inventory and updates in conjunction with inventory manager. 

  • Verify packing slips from shipments and prepare items for returns 

  • Must have good problem-solving skills and be able to handle stressful and/or emotional situations. 

Hazards and Programs Oversight (where applicable)  

  • Animal handling & bite prevention 

  • Zoonotic Disease Handling/Protocols 

  • Hazard Communication Standard (e.g., hazardous chemicals) 

  • Hazardous Drugs (antineoplastic chemo & non-antineoplastic HDs) 

  • Managing radiation dosimeter badges and employee radiation exposure reports 

  • Infection Control Program and Zoonotic Diseases 

  • Emergency Response and Planning, Fire Safety, and Evacuation 

  • Regulated Medical and Hazardous Chemical Waste 

  • Arranging for CPR/AED training and certification for human emergency response (if program is present at hospital) 

  • Workplace Violence and Prevention 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School degree or equivalent required. 

  • Ability to understand and interpret written material, including technical information, rules, regulations, executive orders, and laws. 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 

  • Ability to work in a self-motivated way. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Precise attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Able to manage multiple activities and competing priorities as well as follow-up actions. 

  • Possesses a positive and professional attitude. 

  • Proficiency in the use of technology, including Microsoft Office applications, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams meetings, etc. 

SCHEDULE/HOURS 

  • 40 Hours/Wk 

  • 5 -8 hour Days 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

This job classification requires that the applicant be capable of standing continuously for up to four hours with little or no breaks and able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Applicants must be able to stand, sit, see and hear. This position involves repetitive use of the hands, wrists and arms and the individual must be able to meet the minimum dexterity requirements of this position.
