Job Title: Controls Engineer

Job Description

The majority of this role will be centered around front-end programming and back-end code review to help make process improvements to the automation. You will troubleshoot current controls equipment, identify opportunities for code rewrites or physical updates, and keep the controls team informed on FAT testing results. While working from home, you will update reports on problem root causes and recommend solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently with internal and external engineering teams to successfully deliver high-quality, cross-functional projects.

  • Partner with project managers and external vendors to set project priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet deadlines.

  • Influence technical documentation content, perform documentation reviews, and dive deep into system layouts and solutions.

  • Represent system and/or equipment designs to both customers and other teams.

  • Communicate project status, effectively answer project questions in detail, and regularly produce clear and concise summaries for leadership/management teams.

  • Develop strong working relationships with vendors, engineers, managers, and peers.

  • Work with internal teams to develop quality and performance test plans.

  • Build strong working relationships with leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites.

  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives in support of operations teams within a geographic node.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with PLC programming from scratch - Allen Bradley.

  • Proficiency in debugging and improving/modifying control systems for process improvements.

  • Experience with automation, material handling, and conveyor systems.

  • Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, and SCADA/HMI development and implementation.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products: Excel, Project, and Outlook.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other STEM field.

  • 4+ years of experience as a controls engineer, electrical engineer, process engineer, project manager, or related occupation.

  • Experience with managing material handling or automation projects.

  • Design and/or implementation experience of integrated automation solutions, such as material handling systems, high-speed packaging lines, or manufacturing lines.

Work Environment

Work from home days will focus on documentation, while travel days will involve on-site programming edits, controls troubleshooting of new automation prototypes, or programming from scratch. Travel typically involves 2 days per week, not usually exceeding 3 days at a time. From now until the end of January, travel will be heavier (75%, 3 weeks out of month for 1-3 days), then from February to July, travel will be very limited (about 20%).

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00
