Vanderbilt University Application Evaluator (Temporary, Remote) in Nashville, Tennessee

Position Summary:

The MBA Recruiting and Admissions Application Evaluator is part of the Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management Recruiting and Admissions Team and is a key individual contributor responsible for evaluating candidate applications for the full-time MBA program. This position reports functionally and administratively to the Director, MBA Admissions.

The Application Evaluator team is responsible for the holistic assessment of applicants’ materials. This position is a seasonal, part-time role with hours dependent on application flow. The role begins with training in September, and application evaluation until May 2025. While seasonal application evaluators do not need to be in the Nashville area, they must be available for periodic daytime meetings in the Central Standard Time Zone. This is an hourly position, and the candidate must keep accurate time records.

About the Work Unit:

The Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management is building the next generation of leaders through collaboration and a portfolio of programs that focus on helping individuals to discover, grow and thrive in business and beyond. The MBA program is looking for early career professionals who wish to accelerate their career path or transition to a new one. The MBA Admissions Team is responsible for building an MBA class that can succeed in and out of the classroom.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

  • Evaluate applicant candidacy through application review in relation to evaluation criteria.

  • Write decision recommendations with clear rationales.

  • Orally present application review to team of individuals including senior leadership.

  • Complete application evaluations accurately and in a timely manner following a pre-determined applicant flow.

  • Understand and maintain strict confidentiality of admissions process and application data.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility, position reports functionally and administratively to the Director, MBA Admissions.

Education and Certifications:

  • A college degree (BA or higher) is necessary.

Required, knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to understand and maintain strict confidentiality of admissions process and application data.

  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Willingness and ability to learn new CRM system.

  • Commitment to work average of 10 hours a week and up to 20 hours a week during the following time periods: October through mid-November, January through April. Hours dependent on application flow and volume and can occur outside of standard business hours. Expectation to meet weekly goals and deadlines.

Preferred requirements:

  • Experience in a field with exposure to pre-MBA or post-MBA roles, or knowledge of MBA career paths strongly.

  • Knowledge of Owen Graduate School of Management and familiarity with programs.

  • Experience in enrollment management, admissions, interviewing or on hiring committees.

  • Experience with SLATE is a plus.
