The Successful Candidate

BAE Systems is seeking a Director of Supplier Quality Operations & Excellence, who will report to the Senior Director of Supplier Quality. This role will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the Supplier Quality Assurance program, supporting all BAE ES business units, to improve product and process quality and delivery within the supply chain. This role will be directly responsible for the management of all supplier quality processes and command media, a Supplier Development Program, and the Continuous Improvement (CI) program for the function. As part of this new role, you will develop and implement a supplier quality operations strategy, that centralizes, standardizes, and enforces compliance of all processes used in the supplier quality organization (business leads, category leads, and suppliers). Additional responsibilities around KPIs, CI, and a supplier quality development program will substantial impact and improve business results, and on delivering operational excellence to customers. This individual must be a self-starting leader who can effectively partner with multiple functional organizations internally (BAE Electronic Systems) and externally (Supply Base) for success.

Responsibilities:

  • Own, improve, and standardize all supplier quality processes (Audits, SCAR, Supplier Change Mgt, SRB, ASL, MAB, Common Clausing, CPP, etc), partnering with Supply Chain, the Business Areas, and the Quality functions. Includes Command Media, communications, dashboards, etc.

  • Continue to own the Supplier Development program, partnering with the Supply Chain function, focusing on QMS, AS9145, Lean-6Sigma, and Quality science tools, with structured training, plans, and customer buy-in, leveraging the core and commodity based structure

  • Develop, improve, and continuously monitor/communicate a standard, meaningful, and actionable KPI/metrics program (including dashboards) that can be reported to the most senior level of leadership in order to provide supplier status and health of supply chain

  • Own the Continuous Improvement program for Supplier Quality includes owning a project hopper process, internal BAE certifications, and external supplier certifications

  • Attend CARB meetings, leading the SQ metrics discussions

  • Identify opportunities for improvement across the supplier quality function, and identify project leads, and monitor progress, with effective results at project closure

  • Own the outsourcing strategy for FAIs, Audits, and Source inspections

  • Strengthen the culture and compliance of all supplier quality processes identifying and implementing continuous improvements

  • Own the Counterfeits Parts Process (CPP), to insure limited risk on new and existing suppliers

  • Partner with Supplier Chain to create a One-Voice BAE message to the supply base

  • Responsible for engaging key supplier s management in a business review process to monitor metrics, identify trends and implement programs to assure demonstrated performance improvements

  • Manages and develops an high performing and diverse team of Supplier Quality resources

  • Own and manage the Supplier Quality budget for the Supplier Quality operations function

  • Enhance supplier and organization quality culture through coaching and technical engagement

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Quality or Manufacturing

  • Direct experience, or related experience in Supplier Quality

  • Experience managing teams

  • Experience with QMS ownership, specifically ISO 9000:2000

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and in diverse and different settings

  • Self-starter; identifies challenges/problems and takes the initiative to identify solutions

  • Must demonstrate high degree of compliance, flexibility and efficiency in building systems and trust with suppliers and customers including regulatory agencies

  • Motivates team members, fosters and nurtures teamwork

  • Can diffuse high-tension situations calmly and effectively

  • Some travel expected

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience with, and an understanding of, sourcing and execution in regulated, demanding industries such as Aerospace/Defense, Medical Device, Automotive, or other challenging markets

  • Experience with QMS ownership, specifically AS9100 Quality Systems

  • AS9145 or APQP is a desire

  • Lean and 6Sigma certifications a plus

  • 10 years direct experience, or related experience in Supplier Quality; 5 years experience managing teams

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $147300 - $250400

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
