Key Responsibilities: General Accounting: Maintain the general ledger by recording accurate journal entries, performing reconciliations, and ensuring financial transactions are properly classified in line with nonprofit accounting standards and GAAP. Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage and process invoices, expense reimbursements, and outgoing payments; reconcile grants, donations, and pledges while maintaining accurate records of receivables. Budget Management: Assist in preparing the annual budget and monitor budget-to-actual variances; provide insights to department heads to align with financial goals. Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal review, external audits, and board meetings, with a focus on nonprofit-specific reports such as functional expense allocation and donor-restricted fund reporting. Grant and Donation Compliance: Track restricted funds and grant expenditures, ensuring compliance with grantor and donor requirements while providing financial reporting for grant applications and closeouts. Audit Support: Assist with the annual audit process, gathering necessary documentation and maintaining audit-ready records throughout the year. Compliance: Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and reporting requirements, including Form 990 filings. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize and streamline accounting procedures to improve organizational efficiency. Collaboration: Communicate financial policies and reporting requirements clearly to stakeholders, and work closely with program leaders, development teams, and external partners. Requirements Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 2+ years of detail oriented accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting. Proficiency in nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit, Blackbaud Financial Edge, NetSuite, or similar systems). Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial reporting standards, including GAAP compliance and donor-restricted funds. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; experience with financial reporting and ERP systems is a plus. CPA or equivalent certification (preferred). High attention to detail, with strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a small team environment.
