General Job Description

This is a paraprofessional position responsible for supporting the operations of the SFA Charter School within and outside of the classroom. Responsible for providing instructional/classroom support and clerical/administrative support by assisting teachers and office staff in daily duties and responsibilities. Works under close supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director, SFA Charter School.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provides instructional/classroom support and clerical/administrative support by assisting teachers and office staff in daily duties and responsibilities.

  2. Greets parents and visitors, gathers relevant information, and assists in answering their questions.

  3. Supervises, interacts with, and provides individual support and assistance to children, ensuring that their needs are met.

  4. Assists in developing, coordinating, and supervising class projects and activities.

  5. Maintains, distributes, collects, and organizes classroom materials and supplies.

  6. Completes accident reports as needed.

  7. Creates, maintains, and updates departmental documents, records, and files.

  8. Assists in grading assignments and recording students’ grades.

  9. Supervises and serves as a positive behavioral model for student assistants.

    Non-Essential Job Functions

  10. Serves as backup to the front office and acts as receptionist as needed.

  11. Cleans classroom during school breaks.

  12. Checks in deliveries and distributes to classrooms.

  13. May assist in cleaning play yard.

  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university and departmental policies and procedures.

  2. Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.

  3. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.

  4. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.

  5. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  6. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  7. Ability to work effectively and patiently with children.

  8. Ability to create projects for children in their classroom.

  9. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.

  10. Ability to operate equipment such as copy machines, fax machines, thermometers, dishwasher, washer and dryer, press laminators, adding machine, and/or telephone.

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Experience and Training

No direct experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Some college coursework in education or a related field is preferred. Experience working with children is preferred.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
