General Job Description
This is a professional position responsible for coordinating the marketing and communications efforts of the Elliott College of Fine Arts ( ECFA ) utilizing emerging and traditional media. Responsible for assisting in the development and presentation of special events/programs and acting as the public information officer for the college. Works under general supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the dean.
Essential Job Functions
Produces written content for print and digital promotional materials.
Develops and implements content strategies to support marketing/communication campaigns and initiatives.
Maintains the master college events calendar and shares event information with various community calendars.
Monitors, maintains, and engages in a strong web and social media presence, to include responding to comments, questions, and messages.
Acts as the college public information officer.
Serves as liaison with the School of Art, the School of Music, the School of Theatre and Dance, and various media outlets.
Prepares news releases concerning college events.
Prepares and distributes performance season brochure.
Hires, trains, and supervises assigned student workers.
Monitors, analyzes, and reports on strategy performance, making data-driven adjustments to optimize results.
Serves as liaison with University Marketing Communications.
Assists in the development and presentation of special events/programs.
Implements and monitors related college and university policies and procedures, ensuring the integrity and enhancing the public image of the college.
Coordinates publicity efforts at appropriate local, state, and/or national levels on the activities of the college.
Establishes and maintains close professional relationships with appropriate contact persons on- and off-campus.
Stays informed of developments and emerging trends related to area of responsibility.
Non-Essential Job Functions
Assists in analyzing and creating the budget for publications and advertising.
Attends special events for the college.
Attends conferences/workshops as requested.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned by the dean.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of marketing principles including promotion, advertising, and public relations.
Knowledge of and experience in digital marketing, email marketing, social media management, search engine optimization ( SEO ), campaign management, and marketing analytics.
Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintain a satisfactory work product.
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, graphic design, publication, and word processing software.
Skill in completing assignments on time and with attention to detail.
Skill in interviewing others and producing written content for a variety of media.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form at the level of a professional writer.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to effectively market the programs and services of the college.
Ability to maintain currency of knowledge and skills, including adapting to changes related to area of responsibility.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Physical Demands
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or a related field is required. Related experience may be substituted for required education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
Required Experience and Training
Five years of related experience is required. Experience in marketing, advertising, and/or arts information is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a higher education setting is preferred.

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility
This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
