Job Title Graduate Administrative Assistant (Library-Evening Supervisor)
General Description
This is a student position responsible for assisting staff with administrative duties, in this case providing leadership and supervision for assigned undergraduate student workers at the Library Services desk in the evening. Reports to the Head of Public Services.
Job Duties
Oversees Library Service Desk operations and activities, including but not limited to providing assistance with checking in and checking out materials, retrieving materials from the collection, handling study room reservations, answering phone calls, directing visitors to appropriate library services, and closing the 2nd-4th floors and Library Services Desk at scheduled times.
Supervises assigned undergraduate student workers and provides performance feedback to the Head of Public Services.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, professional standards and regulations as they relate to library public services.
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to train and supervise others.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a graduate student at Stephen F. Austin State University. The recommendation of a faculty member may be required.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with general library use is helpful.
Experience in supervising student workers is preferred.
Physical Demands
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must have clear or provisional admission to the graduate school and the academic unit, be in good academic standing, and be enrolled in six or more credit hours of graduate courses to be eligible for a graduate assistantship during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for a graduate assistantship during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more credit hours of graduate courses.
