Intermountain Health Clinical Operations Director in Murray, Utah

Job Description:

This position has direct leadership and operational responsible for designated clinical operations within Specialty Based Care. Accountable to achieve operational effectiveness, safety, quality and patient experience goals within assigned unit(s). This position partners with Clinical Ops SBC Executive Director to provide leadership and oversight within their assigned units. Works collaboratively with leaders and peers to provide safe and effective transitions for patients. Shares accountability with local leaders to achieve goals. Shares accountability to provide extraordinary care through the five fundamentals (Safety, Quality, Patient Experience, Access, Stewardship). Uses Intermountain Operating Model (CI) to assess and continually improve operational process/practices to deliver results.

Scope

This position is a facility/geographic leadership position which designs, assists, facilitates, coordinates, and directs clinical operations to system strategies, patient care model development, planning/evaluation, and compliance initiatives. This position has direct accountability for designated clinical operations in a specific group of departments/units/facilities. This position has a direct reporting relationships to an Executive Director of Clinical Operations SBC and indirectly to the nurse administrators of the facilities in which they have operational accountability.

Job Essentials

Quality and Safety:

Responsible for quality and patient safety within designated clinical operations.

Strategy Deployment:

Using the Intermountain Operating Model, partners with the Executive Director of Clinical Operations SBC and collaborates with local operational leaders, clinicians, physicians, to implement and monitor both clinical and operational strategic objectives and goals. Works collaboratively with clinical programs and support services to achieve set clinical goals in all fundamentals of care.

Operational Efficiency:

In collaboration with key stakeholders, develops processes, tools, and policies to ensure appropriate resources and utilization management. Works closely with clinical and facility leaders to provide support and education, facilitate standardization, and create best practices for issues related to level of care, appropriateness, documentation, and other related issues that require clinical input.

Compliance:

Supports all activities for compliance with federal, state, and other regulatory bodies including The Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, DOPL, and other department specific accrediting and certifying bodies.

Ensures compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.

Patient Experience:

Along with facility leadership and clinical programs/services leadership ensures goals around patient satisfaction/engagement are met or exceeded.

Talent Management:

Leads and supervises clinical operations of staff, performing coaching, development, performance management, and administrative duties required of those in a leadership role. Guides the development of recruitment, retention, and employee satisfaction that keeps high performers in place and maintains focus on succession planning.

Leadership:

Oversees the environment in which clinical nursing is practiced. Responsible for day-to-day operations, standards of care and attainment of organizational goals. Directs collaborative problem solving among interdepartmental disciplines. Allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe, and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice. Responsible for the implementation of the vision, mission, and core values of Operational Effectiveness. Accountable for the financial management within designated clinical operations which includes the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual capital/operating and personnel (FTEs) budgets. Provides support and education to department managers for meeting financial goals.

Models and fosters an environment of professionalism. Ensures competent and sufficient number of leadership staff to meet designated clinical operations and patient care needs. Acts as a role model through the demonstration of personal professional development, continuous learning, and competency improvement. Participates in and contributes to educational offerings and visibility in professional organizations.

Clinical Excellence:

Assures the delivery of safe high-quality patient care through ongoing process evaluation and reviewing clinical outcome metrics. Accountable for the implementation of clinical program protocols, and that ongoing monitoring and process improvement occurs to assure goals are achieved. Collaborates with departments, physicians, service lines, and across the facility on benchmarks and best practices to meet designated clinical operations.

Physician Engagement:

Partners with physicians at the service-line level to achieve clinical, operational, and patient experience goals

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in Nursing, Business, or Health Administration from an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Licensed to practice as an RN in the State of Utah.

Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Five years of leadership experience managing a variety of patient care services in a complex healthcare environment.

Experience in directing clinical areas, working closely with physicians, and implementing clinical strategies, operational efforts, and measuring outcomes.

Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, e-mail, and scheduling applications.

  • and -

Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • and -

Willingness and ability to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a leadership role requiring strong relationships and influence in a matrix environment, requiring work in a fast-paced and changing environment while handling multiple deadlines and priorities.

Experience in a role requiring analytical skills and expertise in data management.

  • and -

Five years of experience in nursing, business administration, or service-line specific.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and able to assess patient needs.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, etc.

Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$57.75 - $155.92
