Summary The incumbent is considered a working leader in charge of all work performed by the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Unit, Boiler Plant, and Chiller Plant. As such, incumbent leads WG-l0 A/C Equipment Mechanics, WG-8 A/C Equipment Mechanic, WG-11 Utility Systems Repairer Operators, WG- 9 Utility Systems Operators, WG-9 Boiler Plant Operators, and trainee positions as assigned. Responsibilities As the Utility Systems Repairer-Operator Leader, the duties include but are not limited to: Working leader in charge of all work performed by the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Unit, Boiler Plant, and Chiller Plant. Leads hospital non-recurring or minor projects connected with the Air Conditioning Refrigeration and Heating Unit, boiler plant, and chiller plant. Assigns work to the unit work force daily. Prepares irregular tours and other schedules and submits them in advance to the Utilities Systems Supervisor for approval. Recommends approval or disapproval of annual, LWOP, and sick leave for unit personnel, recommends promotions, disciplinary action, reassignments, and will furnish to the immediate supervisor written monthly recommendations for performance ratings for each assigned employee. Assists in writing accident reports, incentive awards, suggestions and/or work simplification. Provides updated data on all items under the preventive maintenance program, recording on work orders all repaired data including time, parts, materials and cost of items used. Generates and signs subsidiary time and attendance sheets and checks accuracy and signs employee activity sheets. Spot checks work for all shop personnel to ensure quality, accuracy and compliance with trade codes and facility standards. Performs the duties of Journeyman A/C mechanic and/or lead subordinates to maintaining and making repairs to assigned AC Plant, Boiler Plant equipment. Responsible for the maintenance and repair performed on all air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and heating systems assigned. Shall perform appropriate requirements on the following systems and equipment: Pneumatic and electronic control panels, window air conditioners, walk-in and reaching refrigerators, ice machines, fan coil units, air handlers, self-contained chiller units, multi-zone systems, cooling towers and associated components, water pumps, flow indicators, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic valves, drinking water coolers, steam, electrical and gas fired heating units, pressure reducing valves, traps, ventilation units, mechanical and motorized louvers, vent pipe for gas fired equipment, strainers and any other devices associated with cooling, heating, ventilation or refrigeration. Follows appropriate technical data, blueprints, free hand sketches, work orders, verbal instructions and by using correct test equipment, tools and protective clothing. Provides uninterrupted control of the environment in designated areas. Maintains orderly and accurate records of work, time and repair costs. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: This position requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, carrying and pushing or pulling moderately heavy loads. Incumbent must have 20/20 color vision with or without glasses. Working Conditions: This position requires working overtime, in uncontrolled environments, confined spaces, from ladders and rooftops. Incumbent shall be subjected to the hazards normally encountered in the trade and various types of infections. Education There is no substitution of education for this position.
