Primary Responsibilities:
Ensures compliance with NJ TRANSIT operating and safety rules, i.e., train crew is properly positioned at train side within the ten (10) minute boarding standard when applicable. Also ensures compliance with corporate procedures, i.e., open-door policy, crew uniform requirements, etc.
Communicates train readiness/delays to station PA announcer. Monitors escalator operations to ensure that they are turned in the proper direction. Responsible for auditing equipment for cleanliness, monitoring HVAC systems, and inspecting crew appearance.
Communicates and coordinates with Customer Service and Senior Trainmasters regarding operational concerns, equipment, elevators/escalators, etc., and ensures that all issues are addressed in a timely manner.
Conducts safety inspections and ensures compliance with NJ TRANSIT policies and FRA regulations regarding timely investigation and reporting of injuries to employees and passengers. Identifies safety concerns for immediate response.
Investigates customer complaints, provides feedback to customers, and takes corrective action as required.
Responds to and assists during emergency situations in assigned locations such as derailments, fatalities, weather-related incidents, delays, or service disruptions that require standing for prolong periods of time, etc. Serves as NJ TRANSIT liaison to command post during fire or police incidents.
Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
Minimum:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) years of progressive operating experience in railroad operations.
Formal post-high school education may be substituted for required experience as appropriate.
Must be NORAC Qualified
Preferred:
Formal post-high school education desirable.
Knowledge of New York Penn Station, Newark Penn Station, train schedules, connections, and crew/equipment manipulations is preferred.
