Department Summary

The A&A Internship Program is geared toward current college students who have a passion for application development and data analytics and an interest in Consumers Energy and the energy industry. The Internship Program at Consumers Energy is a key component of realizing the customer organizations goals.

Job Description/Responsibilities

An intern in the Application and Analytics group will be helping the subject matter experts make the best decisions possible about critical business issues. In this role, you'll be exposed to a wide range of energy industry issues critical to the company's continued success. You will be continually exposed to challenges that stretch your development and analytical skills, creativity, business acumen, interpersonal skills and leadership. The successful candidate for this position will have primary responsibility of assisting in developing applications using agile tools, delivering operational strategic initiatives, focused on achieving performance metrics, process efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  • Support prototyping, design, development, testing, debugging, documentation, and implementation of software applications in an agile environment.

  • Provide limited technical expertise for enhancements and IT Projects in the areas of solution alternatives, design, configuration, testing and documentation

  • Deliver knowledge and research on market trends, benchmarking and process improvement techniques.

  • Analyze the strategic, operating, and financial impacts of business proposals and/or external regulatory / legislative proposals.

  • Manage the development of executive level PowerPoint presentations as an effective communication vehicle.

  • Develop advanced analytical models, develop visuals in PowerBI and data sets to support problem solving and business insights

  • Develop data models to support large initiatives across the organization.

This position offers an opportunity to develop a skillset of core problem solving skills while utilizing the latest and greatest technologies. . Interns will be asked to explore the most pressing and potentially disruptive forces facing the utility and energy industries today and develop strategies that will aid senior executives in making decisions. The work will be challenging, equivalent to an entry level role, but in a collaborative team environment where you can learn from industry leaders.

In addition to working alongside full time employees in Application and Analytics for Consumers Energy, A&A Interns will have the option to participate in several additional events within the program, including intern networking events, company tours and the consistently top-ranked event, the Intern Challenge.

Requirements/Qualifications

Enrolled and actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the business or engineering field majoring in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Data Analysis, Industrial Engineering, or a similar field. The minimum GPA requirement for this internship position is 2.7

This position will be located in Jackson and the position may require driving.

Essential Functions

  • Support the planning, business analysis, general management, budget preparations and analysis, negotiations, transactions, customer services and auditing of a wide variety of business functions and processes of specific operating and support areas throughout the Company.

  • Duties and who these individual reports to will fluctuate between projects, departments and offices.

  • Assist with application development or business analysis and support for the plans, reports, impacts, contracts, schedules, estimates, data collection, observations, and field investigations.

  • Provide application development or business analysis and support services with accuracy, on time and under budget.

  • Comfortable utilizing at least one software tool to analyze, manipulate, and present data effectively.

  • Comfortable with application development based on user requirements utilizing agile methodologies

  • Use computer assisted applications software and equipment to prepare evaluate, interpret and present data.

Hours and Travel

Meet travel requirements of the position. Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
