Team Summary

Asphalt Operations produces one of the most critical components that allows our Residential Roofing partners to manufacture the highest quality shingles in the industry, oxidized coating. We are committed to combining best-in-class Materials, Equipment, Processes and Talent to deliver a competitive advantage for GAF Asphalt Coating Supply. Our unwavering goal is to sustain market leading capabilities to produce asphalt coating that meets the ever changing needs of our customers.

The Manager Process Excellence Asphalt is responsible for managing multi-plant process development and process improvement initiatives and projects. This role provides technical process support across GAF's Asphalt Plants and is responsible for raw material and finished coating quality, reliable manufacturing processes, and driving continuous improvement throughout the network. The Manager Process Excellence Asphalt also works cross-functionally on initiatives to achieve organizational objectives. These initiatives may be developmental in nature, may include the application of existing technologies, and may include capital project engineering and management. This role will have 5 direct reports.

Essential Duties

  • Essential Duties Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and support the asphalt coating supply innovation efforts and improvements, including both oxidation and non-oxidation methodologies.

  • Drive sustainability efforts across asphalt plant operations.

  • Partner with R&D, Procurement and Operations teams to develop and execute a robust asphalt sourcing strategy.

  • Transfer asphalt sourcing strategy into capital deployment plan. Partner with the Capital Deployment Team to execute the plan.

  • Partner with Finance, Procurement and Operations teams to develop business cases to support asphalt and capital deployment strategies.

  • Partner with Ops Managers and Quality Assurance Team to ensure execution of audits and gap closure plans.

  • Provide plant and business support on projects and activities that generate additional operating income through the application of variation reduction techniques, process modification, product modification, product design, new raw materials, improved raw material utilization, more cost-effective use of raw materials, and improved speed.

  • Drive consistency and optimization of finished asphalt properties and work alongside roofing customers to achieve them.

  • Lead efforts to design and implement process improvement initiatives and seamlessly manage project details, ensuring safe, timely, and high-quality solutions.

  • Implements continuous improvements to the process and sustains previous improvements using the GAF Business System tools. Specifically, actively participates in 5S, practical problem solving, elimination of waste, and visual management.

  • Drive standardization and documentation of best practice procedures across all asphalt yards.

  • Apply standard GAF systems to ensure that project documentation exists to facilitate future application.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Process Engineers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field required, preferably in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. Required

  • 10 years of demonstrated experience in a refinery or chemical manufacturing environment with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Demonstrated detailed technical engineering skills in a refinery or chemical manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated skill in applying Lean Manufacturing concepts, practices & procedures with proven quantifiable results.

  • Analytical Troubleshooting Techniques, Statistical analysis – Six Sigma Methodology, Quality Process Improvement principles.

  • Demonstrated safety leadership skills.

Qualifications Preferred

  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and listening.

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Google Suite applications.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and achieve results.

  • Demonstrated skill in problem-solving, statistical expertise, and leading problem-solving teams.

  • Proven ability to influence network-wide decision-making at the plant operations level.

  • Ability to make project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently and maintain flexibility.

  • Results-oriented, high energy, credible, honest, self-motivated person.

Travel Requirements: Domestic travel is required (50%)

Consideration will be given based on geography, candidate experience, and qualifications.

Annual Salary Range: 135,000-172,500
