Robert Half Payroll Clerk in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Description We are seeking a diligent Payroll Clerk to join our team in the government sector based in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. In this role, you will be tasked with managing various aspects of payroll processing, including bi-weekly payroll, incentive payments, and other payroll-related functions. This position offers a contract to hire employment opportunity.

Key responsibilities:

• Processing bi-weekly payroll, ensuring all postings of payroll checks, employer’s contributions, and fringe benefits are recorded correctly in the general ledger.

• Handling monthly incentive payments such as Map, Longevity, Wellness Points, and Safety Awards.

• Importing and exporting files to and from the Town’s timekeeping system and resolving any issues that may arise.

• Collaborating with human resources on pay changes, omissions, etc., in preparation for payroll processing.

• Reviewing human resources changes entered for accuracy and calculating retro, split, and incentive pay as needed.

• Overseeing direct deposit transmissions to ensure legal requirements are met and preparing and submitting all payroll taxes electronically.

• Processing and mailing payroll-related accounts payable checks including levies, family court, and various vendors with proper backup.

• Preparing payroll reports for submission and maintaining Excel spreadsheets for monthly, quarterly, and yearly payroll reconciliations.

• Reconciling payroll accounts and all related general ledger accounts and maintaining supporting documents in an orderly and secure manner.

• Assisting the Payroll Manager in preparing payroll-related items for the annual Worker’s Comp Audit and acting as primary contact for the Town’s timekeeping system’s help desk.

• Training Town employees on timekeeping software as needed and assisting in special projects as needed. Requirements • Proficient in ADP - Payroll software

• Knowledgeable in Local Payroll Tax regulations and procedures

• Demonstrated experience in Payroll operations

• Ability to manage payroll for over 500 employees

• Familiarity with various Payroll Functions

• Proficient in processing payroll accurately and efficiently

• Ability to reconcile payroll discrepancies

• Proficient in Oracle software for payroll management and related tasks

• Prior experience in a government sector payroll role is preferable

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll information

• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

• Capable of working under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
