Job Overview

Securing data is core to building trust with our members and for LinkedIn’s success. Our vision as the Security Infrastructure & Systems team is to ensure that every access to data at LinkedIn is safe. Our mission is to make security intuitive, performant, and secure. We build highly reliable and scalable services and developer-friendly infrastructure that enable engineering teams across the company to create and integrate secure features and proactively protect our members’ data. We are responsible for securing all of LinkedIn’s microservices and large scale data systems such as Kafka.

As a Principal Staff Engineer of the Security Foundations Engineering team at LinkedIn, you will play a crucial role in our ongoing efforts to re-architect our security infrastructure stack. This is a high-profile, high-impact project that will touch every aspect of our engineering organization, and we are looking for experienced professionals who have a proven track record of designing large-scale security infrastructure and driving consensus.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions that will enable LinkedIn to scale its security infrastructure and services to meet the demands of a rapidly growing user base. This will involve working closely with a team of experienced engineers to develop and operate solutions that are robust, scalable, and efficient. You will also need to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

Contribute to LinkedIn’s data center infrastructure strategy.

Build and operate platforms that provide foundational security capabilities at scale.

Create world-class high-performance authentication, authorization, secret management, identity development, and cryptography solutions for our data centers.

Up-level and coach a large team of talented developers.

Collaborate with senior technical leaders across the company to derive crucial decisions and deliver timely outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

BS/BA in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent technical experience

Extensive security knowledge.

7+ years industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions.

7+ years programming experience in object-oriented programming languages such as Python, Java, Golang, C/C++, C#, Objective-C, or Ruby.

5+ years of experience in an architect or leadership position.

5+ years of experience in large-scale compute infrastructure.

Experienced in large distributed systems.

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years’ experience in software design, development, and operations.

10+ years programming experience in an object-oriented programming language such as Python, Java, Golang, C/C++, C#, Objective-C, or Ruby.

5+ years experience with large-scale distributed systems and client-server architectures.

Experience with building and operating cryptographic systems at scale.

Extensive understanding of cloud native computing technologies like Kubernetes

Experience in building, deploying and operating application authentication and authorization infrastructure (e.g OAuth).

2+ years experience working with machine learning/artificial intelligence.

Track record designing, building and operating security services for planet scale distributed systems.

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

The pay range for this role is $203,000 to $333,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
