The Identity Engineering Organization builds and manages Microsoft’s identity platform for all of Microsoft’s cloud services and products including Azure, Microsoft 365 and Xbox. We boldly pursue big ideas that power transformational advances in security, user management, access management, identity governance, etc. Identity engineering team members have deep technical expertise, customer insights, and a clear point of view that comes from first-hand experience running very large-scale services. We are engineers, technology leaders and experts, digital transformation change agents, and customer advocates. The Microsoft Entra Identity Governance Team is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to reshape security and deliver end-to-end, simplified solutions that empower every user, customer, and developer. You’ll have the opportunity to build a next-generation Identity Governance platform with AI and Copilot experiences, empowering customers to efficiently manage and secure identity access within their organizations.

This Hybrid Position is located at our Microsoft offices in Redmond, Washington or Mountain View, California . Relocation support will not be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location. 

Responsibilities

• Establish long term technical strategy and direction for key Platform Initiatives. 

• Create and improve architecture designs for complex end to end scenarios that involve multiple teams and services. 

• Drive the engineering culture to strive for a scalable architecture, operational excellence, experimentation driven culture, growth mindset, and being customer obsessed. 

• Influence, lead, and collaborate effectively across leadership, teams, and organizations to drive outcomes – the scope here is company-wide. 

• Collaborate with Product teams to make sure we address key customer needs and put customer feedback in center of product design 

• Need to operate effectively amongst executive leadership and executive stakeholders. 

• Fosters a healthy and inclusive team environment

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

• Industry experience involving AI and/or Machine Learning in a rapidly-scaling space

• Industry experience in working with large-scale datasets.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
