We are looking for a Principal Applied Scientist for the Microsoft Teams Calling, Meeting and Devices group.

This person will collaborate with a multi-functional group to deliver next generation innovations and experiences leveraging, fine tuning and prompt engineering foundation models. Partner with product and engineering teams to invent and deliver on the future for Microsoft CoPilot and other generative artifical intelligence (AI) products.

Responsibilities

  • Feature development including technical designing, coding, validation and releasing to production.

  • Work closely with Program Managers and Designers to create engineering plans including timeframes, milestones and quality, reliability and performance goals.

  • Collaborate across broader team to identify dependencies, bottlenecks and opportunities for re-use or efficiency improvements.

  • Provide constructive feedback, formulate goals and help the team achieve the goals.

  • Own scenarios end-to-end and maintain high level of quality, reliability and performance.

  • Encourage innovation across all stages of product lifecycle.

  • Conduct applied science experiments, create and validate metrics, work with machine learning (ML) pipeline and modeling algorithm in the area of Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Information Retrieval, and Machine Learning.

  • Develop and deploy conversational and language understanding models at scale.

  • Follow and advance best practices for Responsible AI and Privacy Preserving Machine Learning.

  • Collaborate closely with Microsoft Research, Microsoft AI groups, Microsoft Azure, AI platform teams, and product teams to create the next generation of AI innovation in our products and services.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ years of experience in AI for web/frontend technologies.

  • 4+ years of experience in Applied ML and Product development.

  • Recent experience working with LLM or NLP.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.

  • Experience with commercial product development with a focus on user experiences.

Applied Sciences IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
