US Tech Solutions Applied Bioethics & AI/ML Product Development Medical Officer in Mountain View, California

Job Description:

  • The team partners with the AI Principles Review team, and other key teams across client, on research and product reviews, as well as on launches to provide consultation and resources to teams across the client to support them as they conduct research and build health-related products, responsibly.

  • We’re looking for people who have academic training and work experience that prepares them to look at how products perform within their broader societal context and to spot ways they could increase benefits to people, or potentially cause harm.

  • We’re looking for past roles in the product/private sector that focus on working through complex topics at the intersection of technology and society (or sociology/social systems generally).

  • This role will support health-related products while contributing to a variety of other AI applications.

  • As a part of a highly-motivated, collaborative team, this role will work with teams across the company to explore and better understand how products impact users and broader society, documenting guidance, and problem-solving with data.

Responsibilities:

  • As an Applied Bioethics & AI/ML Product Development Medical Officer, your responsibility is to partner with product development teams to assess the application of their product’s risk.

  • Support teams evaluating performance and risks of generative AI in health-impacting products and models.

  • Provide a holistic perspective to product teams, independent of any immediate business or engineering impact.

  • Build awareness of the company’s AI Principles and strengthen our culture around thoughtful consideration of ethical issues in our day-to-day work.

  • Surface insights and communicate effectively to influence and guide larger, cross-functional working groups towards solutions.

  • Perform AI Principles reviews of health-related product and feature launches, many of which use AI.

  • Work closely with product teams, engineers, and program managers around the world to identify and develop creative solutions to ethical challenges that arise in research and product development.

  • Develop training and educational materials related to bioethics for product, research, and engineering teams engaged in AI and health work.

Experience:

  • Effective program management skills, including excellent organizational skills and ability to operate in demanding timeframes.

  • 5+ years relevant experience with a comprehensive understanding of applied bioethics.

  • Experience in ethics consultation, teaching, and/or curriculum development.

  • Knowledge of ethics and socio-technical considerations of technology and the future of AI.

Skills:

  • Experience in industrial or biomedical research and product development settings (e.g., health technology, biotechnology, medical device, etc).

  • Solid knowledge of machine learning and ethical principles.

  • Strong data analysis and documentation skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, influencing, and relationship-building skills.

Education:

  • Advanced degree required (Masters, PhD, EdD, JD, or MD) in a field related to health ethics / bioethics.
