Knox Concrete CONCRETE FINISHER --Work weeks is Monday thru Friday, fulltime status, with overtime pay. Weekend work is occasionally required, start time varies, may be as early as 6am. This position is entitled to benefits upon completion of 90 day probationary period. Required to perform a variety of tasks including placing, finishing, protecting and repairing concrete. Operates a screed to level freshly placed concrete according to grade and depth specification. Cut joints/grooves in concrete with edging tools to help control cracking. Apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces. Monitor the wind, heat and cold as it affects the curing of the concrete. Duties include but are not limited to the following: • Signals concrete truck to position truck to facilitate pouring of concrete and move chute to direct concrete on forms. • Muck concrete. Smooth surfaces. Remove rough or defective spots. Patch, mold expansion joints and edges. • Produce rough concrete surfaces with broom. Directs subgrade work, mixing of concrete and setting forms. • Set grades, know all phases of finishing, i.e., hard trowel, mag, float, bull float, Fresno, C&G, steps, jointing, straight edge concrete, pour concrete, etc. • Communicate with Foreman regarding any problems arising, materials required, or any hazards noted. • Provide training to laborers for finishing duties. • Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them; check and ensure proper setting • Tie steel per specifications • Smooth high spots and fill depressions; finish corners by hand • Saw cutting per specifications • Install expansion joint • Dowling • Wet surface to prepare for bonding, fill holes and cracks with grout or slurry, and smooth, using trowel. • Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface. • Install anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete and/or pattern or stamp the surface to provide a decorative finish. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS • Minimum 5 years construction site experience; 2 years' experience as a finisher • Able to be certified in first aid • Able to be achieve OSHA 10 Card • Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to provide clear direction • Strong mathematics skills to measure and problem solve • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. • Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability to work in extreme conditions -- temperatures may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit • Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended periods of time • Ability to lift and carry 100 lbs. • Ability to bend, stoop and twist continuously throughout the day ADDITIONAL CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED • Dependability -- in many cases, work cannot start until you get there, if you don't show up, the company may have to lose a day of work until they can replace you; your co-workers could also lose pay. • Attention to detail - most of the time, no one will be watching over your shoulder, and they depend on you to perform the task correctly and notify someone instantly if there are any problems. • Cooperation - you will be working with other people, and arguments and hostility slow a job down.
