Intermountain Health Lab Supervisor in Mount Pleasant, Utah

Job Description:

This position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, including operations and personnel, within an area or department in Laboratory Services. Supervises all levels of laboratory employees. Responsible for implementing comprehensive quality programs in compliance with all standard operating procedures and regulations of certifying, licensing, and accrediting agencies.

Job Essentials:

  • Acts as a liaison between customers and the laboratory in handling problems or special situations that may arise.

  • Assists in the human resource management of the department including: hiring, performance reviews, staff development / education, retention, scheduling, payroll, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and terminations.

  • Responsible for documenting and maintaining staff competency information and providing necessary training. Provides or oversees orientation of new staff members.

  • Assists in the financial management of the department including budget, accounts payable, staff, and supplies.

  • Resolves technical problems and ensures corrective action is taken.

  • Responsible for quality assurance program for area of accountability.

  • Maintains bench competency and skills.

  • Develops, leads, and implements department initiatives.

  • May be an active participant in corporate practice councils, associated work groups, and hospital committees as assigned.

  • Stays current with regulatory issues for compliance and other regulatory standards. Acts as a resource to laboratory personnel concerning SOPS and regulations of certifying and accrediting agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory / medical technology science obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. Non-US [non-accredited] degrees may be evaluated for equivalency by an Intermountain approved vendor. Eligibility for this role is dependent upon meeting qualifications including acceptance of an approved equivalency designation.

  • Two years working in a lab that performs high complexity testing.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and effective communication skills both, verbal and written.

  • Demonstrated intermediate word processing, spreadsheet, and laboratory systems skills.

  • Experience in developing, leading, and implementing department initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree/Master's Degree in one of the above-mentioned fields of study

  • Six months supervisory experience

  • Experience with laboratory regulatory agencies

Physical Requirements:

  • Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information.

  • Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.

  • See and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents..

  • Walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment cart.

  • Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.

  • Adjust body, including bending, to perform phlebotomy work.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$37.46 - $57.80
