Job Summary

Responsible for the overall daily operation of the Diagnostic Radiology department. Oversee the activities of the staff radiologic technologist. Assist with annual appraisals on staff/orient new employees.

Essential Job Functions

  • Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance.

  • Assist in developing necessary forms, procedures, and protocols.

  • Confer with radiologist to determine proper imaging protocol.

  • Confer with department manager to determine proper procedures/guidelines.

  • Develop and implement new forms as needed for operations.

  • Provide for the safety of patients, other hospital employees, and visitors.

  • Oversee daily QC/preventative maintenance on equipment.

  • Maintain records on equipment calibration/service

  • Report any necessary equipment malfunction to service provider.

  • Evaluate new products/equipment.

  • Assist the manager in determining the value of new products/equipment to meet the needs of the department.

  • Review new products/equipment on the basis of cost effectiveness.

  • Make recommendations for capital purchases of new equipment to department manager.

  • Maintain or change patient/technologist schedule to provide accessibility and high quality services.

  • Provide proper scheduling for procedures.

  • Prepare technologist schedule for review by department manager.

  • Maintain department statistics and records required by federal, state, and local agencies.

  • Assist in any necessary accreditations.

  • Assist JCAHO and DOH inspections.

  • Assist department manager in the development of performance improvement initiatives.

  • Develop cost saving initiatives.

  • Develop better patient care initiatives.

  • Oversee training, hiring, and education.

  • Oversee the activities and assists with annual performance appraisals on diagnostic radiology staff.

  • Assist in interviews for diagnostic radiology positions.

  • Orient new employees to department.

  • Maintain continuing education for staff.

  • Oversee PACS system and related functions.

  • Assist PACS coordinator in maintenance functions of the PACS/CR system.

  • Assist PACS coordinator in daily operations of PACS/CR system.

  • Verify correct image/patient data is maintained in PACS system.

  • Evaluate new PACS/CR/Software/equipment.

  • Follow negotiated agreement set forth by the technical bargaining group of the Service Employees International Union District 1199P, AFL-CIO, CLC.

  • Perform all job duties of Staff Radiologic Technologist included on job description Staff Radiologic Technologist.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology Program recognized by ARRT.

  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, and sound judgment.

  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years’ experience as Registered Radiologic Technologist with credentials with ARRT

License, Certification & Clearances

  • Current Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Regular, consistent, on-site and timely attendance.

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).

  • Travel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations.
