JOURNEYMAN BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER/RESIDENCE LIFE

Position Summary:
Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance in all trade areas for Residence Life. Supervises and educates students and performs reactive and preventative maintenance and/or renovations in residential and other auxiliary areas on campus. Assists in creating a safe and livable environment for students. Above all, this position is expected to display exemplary customer service and assist other Residence Life staff with facility needs and operations as requested.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED . Journeyman Certification from the US Department of Labor or equivalent. General knowledge of all trades (carpentry, plumbing, HVAC , electrical and painting ) and the tools required in each area. Work experience in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Possession of a valid driver's license. Ability to become authorized to operate university-owned vehicles and adhere to the university's Operation of Motorized Utility Vehicles policy. Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed. Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, sketches. Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lift devices. Ability to work in closely restricted locations. Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations including fire safety. Knowledge of paint and its different uses. Knowledge of lock and door closures, repair, and installation. Knowledge of A.D.A/Handicap accessibility regulations and the ability to apply those regulations to projects. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret oral or written directions. Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills required to maintain positive relations within the University community including students, staff, faculty, and work associates in their respective working/living environments. Ability to use computers with proficient use of email, excel, word, web browsers, etc. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
