Description
The ESL Advisor provides English skills assessment, advising, and assistance with course selection and program planning for individuals whose primary language is not English. The ESL advisor works with students to plan a program of study to meet their individual needs and goals.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Help ESL students with placement and registration.
Advise ESL students if they have academic problems.
Inform students of program or College policies, procedures, and requirements.
Distribute important academic and co-curricular information.
Assist the ESL Program Coordinator in recruiting and reaching out to the community.
Assist the ESL program Coordinator in ESL tutoring and Conversation Partners Program.
Participate actively in community organizations and events such as ESL information sessions.
Carry out other duties as assigned by the ESL Program Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree
Experience Required:
Experienced working with ESL students and their cultural diversity.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and cross-cultural communication skills.
Strong computer skills in Word and Excel.
Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements:
Bilingual (Spanish speaking)
Ability to work some evenings
Additional Information
INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:
Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
