Richmond Community Services Behavioral Specialist- Part Time Variable in Mount Kisco, New York

The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) will develop and implement behavior support plans for adults with developmental disabilities. The BIS will be responsible to train Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) on the implementation of the interventions outlined in the behavior support plans, as well as monitor and revise plans in response to data analysis, direct observation, and feedback from program staff.

The Behavioral Intervention Specialist demonstrates knowledge of Richmond's quality mission, vision, and values. In addition, this position actively participates in quality improvement projects (i.e. communicating issues, offering suggestions) to ensure ongoing excellence of Richmond residents, staff and programs.

Behavioral Assessments, Interventions and Supports:

  • Performs functional assessments, including data collection and analysis, to be used in the establishment of behavioral support plans.

  • Formally incorporates relevant staff and ITT members in functional assessment process.

  • Writes behavioral intervention plans and revises them as needed, based on updated assessments, at least annually.

  • Establishes data collection methods and reviews data as needed, at least monthly.

Presentations and other ITT collaboration:

  • Presents to Richmond’s Human Rights Committee (HRC) and external Informed Consent Committee as needed for the use of psychotropic medication and restrictive behavioral interventions, following all committee policies and procedures. Prepares and submits reports to Psychologist for approval, by a pre-determined date prior to committee meetings. Maintains list of necessary approvals and all documentation on caseload – submits in timely fashion to the Clinical, Operations and Quality Administrative Assistant.

  • In conjunction with the Social Work department, prepares consents for psychotropic medications and restrictive behavioral interventions.

  • Makes referrals for psychiatric care and/or therapy as indicated. Prepares clinic visit summaries, supported by documentation; assures contact with provider. Attends provider appointments as necessary.

  • Acts as a liaison regarding mental health services/behavioral problems between and among ITT members, clinics, day programs, families, and hospitals and concerned others.

  • Participates in meetings including ITT, Day Programs, Departmental and those specially convened. Attends supervisory meetings.

Staff training and support:

  • Formally trains staff in the implementation of replacement goals and behavioral support plans, and in empirically validated approaches that support adaptive behaviors.

  • Informally trains staff by role modeling Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports with individuals and/or through giving staff feedback after observations of staff interactions with individuals. Follows up with supervisors as needed.

  • Debriefs with staff after major clinical events as needed and appropriate.

Documentation:

  • Performs Caretracker functions that are relevant to job duties on time.

  • Completes all required written reports and documentation on time.

Other:

  • Maintains professional conduct with clients and co-workers at all times.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

This position works a regularly scheduled 21-hour workweek; hours are flexible and may extend earlier in the day or later in the evening as duties necessitate; this position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications & Minimum Requirements

  • Masters in the field of Psychology (or related field). Board Certification in Behavioral Analysis at the Masters level is preferred.

  • Post Masters experience in behavioral or clinical field; experience with persons with developmental disabilities highly preferred.

  • Valid NYS license with vehicle to transport self to cover assigned projects and tasks.

Pay starts from $32.15 to $36.21; pay is commensurate based on experience.
