The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

Job Summary

The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer solves challenging engineering problems involving products, systems, and components using advanced simulation techniques and analysis.

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL and does not offer relocation

  • Expected travel is 10% or less with this role

What You Will Do

  • Interacts with design engineers to understand project scope and technical requirements

  • Creates an appropriate analysis strategy and timeline

  • Meets milestone dates

  • Interprets and communicates results

  • Makes recommendations, performing lab validation, and writing technical reports

  • Duties could include completing research to enhance core competency of the group

What You Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • Technical Excellence : Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. FEA (linear and non-linear) experience using ABAQUS. Experience with 3D modeling tools CREO, SOLIDWORKS, etc.

  • Analytical Thinking : Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Effective Communications : Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. The ability to write technical reports.

  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail : Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Knowledge of non-linear FEA using ABAQUS with emphasis on rubber modelling. Basic knowledge and experience in dynamic structural FEA

  • Customer focus, sense of urgency and quality

  • Knowledge of mold flow simulation of elastomers and plastics

  • Python or any programming language knowledge for scripting

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
