Chemist

The Chemist is responsible for performing chemical and physical testing on raw materials, work-in-process and finished product samples to ensure quality and safety of consumers.

Responsibilities:

  • Under minimal direction performs / reviews analytical testing of Raw Materials, Work in progress, Finished Products for product approval and releases

  • Performs physical and chemical testing in accordance with standard procedures, using wet-chemistry and basic instrumental techniques.

  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date and concise laboratory notebooks and records

  • Works as a member of the Laboratory Team to complete all required tasks in a timely manner

  • Understand and accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures, global methods, local methods and published standard methods i.e. USP, AOCS, ASTM

  • Provides training to employees on new and existing SOPs

  • Provides support to the Operations personnel with analytical equipment and testing procedures.

  • Capable of operating and performing basic troubleshooting on analytical instruments (HPLC, Autotitrator, Karl Fischer, NIR, UV-Vis and FTIR)

  • Responsible for daily/monthly instrument calibrations to ensure all instruments are working properly

  • Support laboratory equipment validations by performing or assisting vendors with Installation Qualifications (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ) and Performance Qualifications (PQ) protocols

  • Assist the manufacturing site with product, equipment, and Cleaning & Sanitizing (C&S) validations by performing all required tests

  • Participates on Out of Specification (OOS) investigations to collect the vital samples and information to complete Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIR)

  • Supports, maintains and reviews data to identify trends and draw conclusions

  • Understands and applies basic laboratory safety instructions, reagent handling precautions, and disposal of chemical waste according to local environmental regulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Chemistry with at least 2 years experience in an Analytical laboratory

  • Solid understanding and practical experience with cGMP and FDA regulations in a chemistry laboratory environment

  • Familiar with quality systems (i.e Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIR), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), calibration, validation, change control, etc.)

  • Good teammate with positive relationship building skills

  • Communicate Effectively - Clearly and simply expresses ideas and concepts

  • Ability to gather relevant information efficiently and apply logic in solving problems and making decisions; using data to support recommendations; weighing risks and predicting benefits and costs.

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and adapt to circumstances as needed

  • Results Oriented

  • Set a positive example for conducting business in an ethical manner, managing stress, and creating a pleasant and balanced work environment.

  • Proficient knowledge of computer and computer software: Excel, Word, Power Point, Etc.

  • This position requires an 8 / 12 hour shift and flexibility across shifts to provide manufacturing coverage of 24 hours 7 days a week

  • Day-shift and night-shift positions available – Night-shift personnel will transfer to respective shift once day-shift training is completed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related sciences major

  • 1+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetic or consumer products industries.

  • Experience with common Analytical Laboratory instrumentation (i.e. HPLC, NIR, Autotitrators, Karl Fischer, UV-Vis and FTIR)

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $60,400.00 - $82,500.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.

  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements

  • Vacation/PTO: Employees receive a minimum of 15 days of vacation/PTO leave annually

  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually

  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year

  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
