The AU Transportation Operations Management team is seeking an Area Manager to work in our Amazon AU Site in Moorebank (BWU1) and manage operations in our yards. Key job responsibilities

  • Create, oversee, and drive a culture of safety and well-being.

  • Partner with site leadership, transportation partners to improve On-time Arrival and Departure Performance of trucks in and out of yards, and deliver high Customer Experience metrics.

  • Communicate between multiple stakeholders to streamline flow of trucks in the yard.

  • Accountable to report yard performance to the local site leadership, identify root causes for structural issues and drive resolution with multiple stakeholders.

  • Proactively identify and lead process improvement initiatives and implementation of Lean tools.

  • Work within various time constraints to meet critical business needs; while measuring and identifying activities performed.

  • Ability to work some weekend shifts as needed (this team provides tactical support to Amazon’s fulfillment network 7 days/week).

  • Lead, manage and develop small teams

  • Respond to and manage incidents in conjunction with various stakeholders.

A day in the life

As a Transportation Area Manager, you will manage yard operations, ensuring FIFO processing and minimizing customer experience risks. You will lead and mentor your team, leveraging your background in transportation and program management. Key responsibilities include working with Dock, Receive, and Ship teams, fostering a supportive and productive environment, and analyzing data to identify and eliminate defects. You will also develop standardized processes to enhance efficiency and consistency, communicate effectively to influence change at local and global levels, and promote a culture of safety while upholding high performance standards. Additionally, you will drive process improvement initiatives. Your day will involve a mix of team management, operational tasks, and strategic improvements, all aimed at ensuring smooth, safe, and customer-focused yard operations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • 1+ years of employee and performance management experience

  • MS Office experience required, with intermediate proficiency in Excel; intermediate understanding in SQL or Access.

  • Experience with performance metrics, decision making based on data and leading process improvements.

  • Experience in people and performance management, communicating with wider stakeholder including peers and leadership

  • Know-how of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Strong inter-personal and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master degree in Logistics/Supply Chain/Mathematics/Science/Engineering subjects.

  • Work experience in operations/supply chain/logistics/e-commerce is a plus.

  • Experience of Six Sigma/ Lean analytical techniques is a plus.

  • Experience of supply chain management and transportation concepts: forecasting, planning, optimization, logistics, delivery performance, carrier negotiation, inventory management, S&OP.
