Posting is for an Engineering Manager II that will serve as the Division Maintenance Engineer for Division Eight and is responsible for the management and supervision of Division 8 County/Road Maintenance, Bridge Maintenance, Equipment, Roadside Environmental, and Traffic Services. Duties include program management/implementation of routine maintenance operations as well as emergency response operations during inclement weather events. Performs advanced engineering calculations, provides engineering technical assistance, and assists in the development and implementation of various Division programs. Responds to inquiries from the public, DOT Management, news media, etc. regarding DOT policies and procedures, Division projects, plans, and proposed work. Anticipated Vacancy
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, maintenance practices and theories used in maintenance of all roadway assets and experience planning, developing, designing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects, independently or with minimal supervision
Experience in performing engineering analysis and preparing technical, statistical, and managerial reports
Experience supervising, motivating, counseling, and training other engineers and technicians
Experience collaborating with others in finding solutions to controversial or sensitive matters that establish precedents
Experience reviewing engineered plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with construction and engineering principles and maintenance standards, codes, designs, and statutes
Additional Expectations:
Position requires ability to independently perform engineering analysis and prepare technical, statistical, and managerial reports. The employee must have the ability to communicate well both orally and in written form. The position requires the ability to maintain multiple projects and complete difficult assignments within specified time requirements. Employee must direct the work of other engineers, apply engineering principles to difficult or complex engineering problems, and make sound recommendations and decisions. Must be able to manage and direct annual budget for the reporting units. A Professional Engineer license by the North Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is preferred by management.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of seven years progressive engineering experience including four years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
