What you’ll be doing

The Senior Assistant, Private Banking provides support to one or more Private Banking Advisor teams. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide exceptional service to Private Banking clients by assisting them with their transactional banking needs and respond to their queries. In addition, the Senior Assistant, Private Banking will have established sales targets and will promote and sell CIBC products and services to clients. The Senior Assistant, Private Banking will assist clients with their overall banking needs including lending, borrowing, investing or commercial lending in nature.

How to succeed

  • Client Service: Greet customers arriving for meetings and arrange contact with appropriate Center staff. Respond to customer inquiries and requests within the prescribed time commitment standard for Private Banking. Ensure client confidentiality is maintained at client service desk at all times and maintain area in a neat and orderly manner. Follow-up to ensure resolution and client satisfaction. Issue convenience cards . Accept and process payments and a range of other COINS/Colt transactions. Manage all fax requests for money orders, drafts, different currency exchanges etc. and ensure all requests are ready for customer pick up in the branch . Liaise with CIBC partners on client’s behalf ensuring problem resolution and follow up as required . Will be required to assist/back up other Private Banking Associates during absences/vacations . Service the financial needs of existing clients when the Private Banking Advisor is not available (e.g. Sales of high value products and services within established guidelines) . May be asked to meet clients offsite for document signing . Complete complex investigations for clients concerning account activity . Adhere to service commitments, escalating to Customer Care when necessary . Ensure all documents are completed with accuracy . As required, prepare customized assembly of products, packages or information to anticipate customer needs prior to private banker meeting with customer. Interact with internal and external service providers (e.g. lawyers, CMHC, mortgage brokers) when necessary to ensure work is completed correctly and within necessary timeframe . Complete/process all documentation required to finalize sales (e.g.: Follow-up customer trades) . Provide credit underwriting by providing ratings; conduct credit checks, obtain required information and prepare credit report; confirm employment and personal information from applications for CIBC products or account openings where the turnaround time will not allow the processing centre to complete the necessary confirmations. Submit credit applications for approval. Support Private Banker in the management of their portfolios by reviewing all customer documentation with respect to compliance with regulations and bank policies, procedures and guidelines. This may include support to small business (e.g. statement analysis, business class) . Communicate with customers regarding obtaining necessary financial information for completion of credit renewals, reviews and temporary overdraft protection . Complete the various reports (OICC/ARM, PLC and ABC Review, overdrafts etc.). Monitor diary for upcoming maturities/renewals/expiries and advise the client accordingly. Ensure filing is up to date daily including Mutual Fund trades following review of Compliance Officer . Coordinate the distribution of information regarding new products, economic market and tax changes, etc. from triggers/diaries or as requested by customers or the Private Banker.

  • Sales: Review the client’s portfolio and financial needs from a holistic perspective. Identify opportunities to broaden the client’s suite of products and services. Meet regularly with clients to conduct less complex portfolio reviews and introduce new product and service solutions. Understand wealth generation by small business enterprises. Increase retention and consolidation of CIBC Private Wealth Management clients’ business by knowing the clients and developing strong relationships and action plans to provide appropriate investment, credit, banking solutions and wealth advisory services for less complex portfolios. Provide consistent service excellence at all client touch points to meet High Net Worth client’s expectations for service delivery and issue resolution. Ensure quality of account portfolio by performing risk assessment and financial analysis on less complex potential or existing High Net Worth clients on an ongoing basis. Ensure that all recommendations and actions adhere to all Bank risk standards and guidelines.

  • Administrative Support: Assist the Private Banking team in rolling-out special marketing or client events. Ensure the center’s marketing material is current. Carry out a range of activities related to building and maintaining deposits as well as investment accounts. Process look ups and provide information on accounts, loans and process cheque orders. Manage a diary system for renewals (e.g. GICs), fixed deposits and currency type of deposits . Input credit details on the CLASS system, including loan notes

  • You can demonstrate experience and working knowledge of branch routine and operations of other departments and CIBC partners sufficient to address client inquires adequately and/or refer to appropriate source. Ability to explain benefits/features of CIBC credit card products. Ability to exercise good judgment independently. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
