CAE USA INC Engineering Director in Montreal (St. Laurent), Canada

About This Role

CAE is looking for a uniquely qualified individual to lead Defense & Security International’s Systems and Software Engineering Center (SSWEC) responsible for the definition, bidding, planning, development, and deployment of custom systems and software solutions to both D&S International customers and collaborating with the D&S US team. The successful candidate must be experienced, well-organized, and milestone-driven, with a passion for functional management, workforce planning and development, continuous improvement, process harmonization, driving a reuse culture, and flawless team execution with strong individual technical, organizational, leadership, and collaboration skills.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the D&S engineering leadership team and International programs in developing the vision and strategies for D&S International SSWEC operational objectives in alignment with the D&S strategic plan.

  • Accountable functional leader overseeing SSWEC team execution and program staff deployment enabling systems and software bidding, planning, architecture, design, development, integration, verification, validation, and deployment of training products.

  • Drives operational, technical, and financial efficiencies within the systems and software organization to improve productivity and schedule performance, ensure work is performed consistent with submitted bids, manage to technical baselines, prevent unfunded scope growth, ensure product compliance and quality requirements are met, and reduce common departmental technical debt

  • Accountable SSWEC lead for annual overhead operating budget planning and forecasting.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the SSWEC management team, evaluating team performance, driving talent development, and ensuring the future workforce size and skill mix aligns with program execution requirements.

  • Close, cross-functional collaboration with the D&S US, D&S International, and CAE Global Products and Technologies (GTP) team.

  • Providing strategic and tactical direction for a large engineering organization.

  • Overseeing people resource management to support program schedules, business needs, priorities and costs.

  • Guiding the engineering organization in continuous improvement, using process improvement methods, tools and training while driving innovation and standardization.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, math, or a science-related discipline, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 20 years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility with at least 8 years of experience leading large software and/or systems engineering teams.

  • Passion for operational excellence, organizational agility, and technology leadership.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with all stakeholders – internal and external – in the implementation of the engineering strategy and the ability to lead through influence.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to make impactful execution and operational decisions, oftentimes with limited information.

  • Previous program facing engineering leadership role as a Chief Engineer, Project Engineering, Product Manager, or similar.

  • Previous experience in a functional leadership role : Understanding business issues quickly : Knows how to respond to business issues and has the self-awareness to leverage his or her strengths to achieve the set objectives; has a good general understanding of the organization’s critical operations. Ability to manage multiple initiatives at once while remaining focused on the objective; finds solutions to issues and obstacles. Prioritizes action and results : Attacks everything with energy and drive to achieve results. Effective communication skills : Speaks and writes clearly and concisely; adapts his or her message to the audience and is able to communicate it to an entire unit or organization. Inspiring others : Is skilled at motivating individuals, teams and an entire organization to excel and cope with change; negotiates with finesse to reach a fair agreement or support a common cause; communicates a clear vision and is committed to accomplishing everything that needs to be done; inspires others; builds motivated and effective teams; recognizes what motivates different people.
