Job Summary
Duties – This position is in various locations in the Southern Interior of British Columbia.
In general, powerline technicians for this position:
- Patrol designated areas of client’s distribution and transmission system as part of the Condition Assessment program and evaluate the integrity of its physical characteristics as well as conformance to regulations. Inspect all overhead and underground equipment thoroughly and document any deficiencies by including in a future rehabilitation package or reporting as an urgent repair. Confirm and/or update system information to ensure accuracy between field data collection systems.
Working Conditions –
Work outdoors and travel to various work sites so travelling often is part of the workday. Periods away from home base.
The work may be strenuous and require carrying, reaching, and frequent lifting of up to 35 kilograms/75 pounds. Getting to power lines requires walking/hiking in remote areas. or entering confined spaces such as manholes and underground vaults.
Comfortable working in variable terrain and outdoor weather conditions.
Standard 50-hour week is normal, possible variances due to need per location.
Power lines may be de-energized and grounded, or they may remain energized while power linemen are working.
Skills & Qualifications –
Red seal PLT certification and minimum 3 years experience
Membership with IBEW Local 258
Familiarity with utility and communications services
Class 1 Drivers License - Clean drivers abstract. No DWI/DUI convictions within previous 5 years.
Ability to read maps and understand directions.
Strong aptitude for using computers. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Basic knowledge of spreadsheets, databases and GPS/GIS equipment and software.
Must speak/write/read and comprehend English.
