IBM IPC - Quality Developer Intern - AI - 12 month - Toronto/Montreal in TORONTO, Ontario
Introduction
We are seeking enthusiastic and driven interns to join our AI/ML and Advanced Analytics team. This internship offers an opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving machine learning, artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and data science. You will gain hands-on experience developing and deploying AI-driven solutions for real-world applications in domains such as payments systems, advanced analytics, and edge AI hardware.
Your role and responsibilities
Test AI/ML models for real-time payment systems, focusing on on-device applications using hardware like NVIDIA Jetson, Google Coral, and mobile AI processors (Qualcomm AI Engine, Apple Neural Engine)
Validate LLMs and LAMs for performance, efficiency, and accuracy in constrained devices and edge environments
Develop and execute test frameworks for on-device AI workflows, including quantization validation, edge inference, and device-to-cloud integration
Test AI-powered mobile applications for real-time fraud detection, anomaly detection, and biometric authentication within payment systems
Conduct performance, security, and scalability testing for embedded AI solutions in payment terminals, IoT devices, and mobile platforms
Validate AI model optimization techniques for enhanced performance on edge devices
Test multi-modal AI solutions (image recognition, NLP, and real-time inference) for mobile and edge payments workflows
Collaborate with hardware teams to test AI models for device-specific constraints, ensuring reliability and fault tolerance
Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards for on-device AI solutions, including PCI DSS, GDPR, and PSD3
Test observability and monitoring integrations for edge and mobile AI applications
Proficiency in on-device AI frameworks
Hands-on experience with AI hardware platforms
Expertise in model optimization and testing for edge deployments
Strong understanding of mobile AI frameworks and adversarial robustness testing

and is open to applicants seeking
12 month internship work
terms, commencing in May 2025.
It is mandatory that all applicants
are enrolled in full-time studies at
a post-secondary institution and
returning to full-time studies upon
completion of the work term.
Required technical and professional expertise
Proficiency in Python, R, or Java for AI/ML model development and testing
Strong data modeling skills, including the ability to design and implement normalized and denormalized schemas
Proficiency in encryption technologies and secure data handling, including experience with encryption protocols, data masking, and access control mechanisms
Experience with data integration tools and frameworks for real-time and batch data processing
Knowledge of cloud platforms and cloud-native database services, including serverless computing, data lakes, and containerized data workloads.
Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve performance, integration, and data quality issues in complex data ecosystems
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring that data solutions meet business and technical requirements
Familiarity with data governance practices, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and standards
