PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The CPKC Police Service (CPKC PS) is a railway police service, which delivers Police services to the CPKC network. Duties include emergency response, special events' policing, risk reduction operations, investigation and enforcement of criminal acts & provincial statutes, crime prevention and public safety programs.
CPKC PS is actively recruiting individuals with experience in law enforcement, railway, or first responder positions including; Peace Officers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Fish and Wildlife, Sheriff, Corrections, EMT, Paramedic, and Fire. Consideration will also be given to applicants with Railway experience. This position is permanently located at the location identified in the application process.
Successful applicants will successfully complete recruit training which is hosted by a partner police agency and is approximately 24 weeks depending on the agency.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Public Safety through enforcement, education, prevention and detection of crime.
Enforcement of Federal, Provincial and municipal laws, statutes and by-laws.
Emergency response to incidents and calls for service including criminal and collision investigations.
Protection of Railway assets, operations and personnel.
Work with other Law Enforcement Agencies during investigations and in joint enforcement operations.
Solid understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
Effectively and efficiently plan, manage, prioritize workload and conduct general and directed patrols.
Be prepared to travel on assignments, in response to incidents and for training.
Possess strong communication skills and prepare comprehensive reports and prosecution files and deliver court testimony.
Provide assistance to victims of crime, Lead and escort prisoners.
Ability to work a rotating schedule including days, afternoons and nights on weekends and Holidays.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Professional experience in law enforcement, emergency response or relevant Railway experience is required.
At least 21 years of age and must possess a high school diploma or GED (Post-Secondary education would be an asset)
Must possess a valid driver’s license (non-GDL) with no more than 5 demerit points.
No criminal convictions or criminal charges before the courts.
No criminal activity within the last three years both detected and undetected.
Knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Justice System and community involvement would be an asset.
Basic digital literacy is required; candidates must also be certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED and able to meet CPPS Firearms and Use of Force Standards.
Must successfully complete a fitness test (PARE, POPAT, or PREP), a psychological evaluation, and a polygraph exam.
Willing to temporarily relocate for a police recruit training program and successfully complete training with a partner police agency for a duration of 22 - 26 weeks.
