Red Hen Baking Company Job Description
Pastry Baker
Hours: This is usually a 10 hour shift, four days per week. Start time is 4:30 a.m. As our business has some seasonal fluctuation, it is to be understood that these times will occasionally vary up to one hour in either direction.
Summary:
Pastry bakers at Red Hen are responsible for scratch production of all pastries that we produce for our caf and our farmers market booths. Each pastry baker is required to gain proficiency in the entire process for each product we produce. They regularly work alongside the Head Pastry Baker and with other pastry bakers.
Required Abilities:
- Ability to learn, understand, and develop proficiency in all aspects of the pastry process
- An understanding of baking principles for viennoiserie as well as chemically leavened baked goods
- Comprehension and use of basic math skills
- Ability to learn and perform consistent procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with coworkers
- Ability to work in a fast paced physically demanding environment while maintaining safe practices.
Specific duties:
*Preparation of dough for all different products
*Using sheeter to make laminated products
*Baking of all pastries
*Preparation of fillings and add-ins
Physical Requirements and environmental demands:
- Standing for the entire shift
- Walking up to the equivalent of two miles per shift
- Participating in procedures that require a high level of repetitive motion involving the hands, wrists, arms and back.
- Lifting up to 40 lbs. repeatedly during the course of a shift
- Ability to exercise discretion and safe procedures as outlined in training while performing above mentioned tasks.
