LIFE MISSION SCHOOL After School Teacher in MONTICELLO, Utah

Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Afterschool Teacher who is committed to implementing our school's values, and teaching in an outdoor learning environment. We have tents and trees for the warm seasons and a heated, indoor gym for the winter season. We will be offering art and gardening to the children. We will garden in a large greenhouse through the winter.

Schedule:

  • Sept 3 - May 23: Tuesdays & Thursdays
  • 3:00 pm pick up students, transport to forest, teach until 5 pm, transport back to the same location by 5:20 pm.
  • Breaks -- Standard Holidays

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Students: Help up to 10 students, side by side with another teacher that has their own students they are overseeing.
  • Prepare activities: Prepare and serve a snack, Help students complete homework, Plan, prepare and offer art & gardening experiences. We have garden volunteers that will be assisting.
  • *Provide Guidance and Support: *Serve as a mentor and guide for students, offering assistance when needed while promoting independence and problem-solving skills.
  • *Ensure Safety and Well-Being: *Implement appropriate safety protocols and risk management procedures while encouraging students to develop skills in assessing and managing risks in outdoor environments. Effectively manage emergency procedures and protocols in case of accidents, injuries, or other critical situations that may arise during activities.
  • Communication: Communicate with other teachers about children's progress and needs.
  • *Model: *Model healthy mental health practices for students by manage ongoing self care for mental health. Present yourself in a way that parents will be pleased you are a model for their child, including dressing modestly, speaking cleanly, modeling healthy behaviors (not using illegal substances), and being friendly.
  • *Physical Work: *Assist with set up and take down of equipment such as tents, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Transport children: Maintain safety of children and transport from the elementary school in Blanding or Monticello to the forest and back, using either the school's vehicles.
  • *Training: *Attend & implement knowledge from provided forest training.
  • Maintain performance: Be evaluated through formal assessments, parent feedback surveys, and/or performance reviews based on job description.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must be physically agile in the forest.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
  • Passion for learning, nature, and environmental stewardship.
  • Passion for education and a commitment to promoting the school's mission and values.
  • Responsible & Reliable

Preferred:

  • Certification in CPR & first aid or a willingness to obtain certifications.
  • Previous experience working in an outdoor education setting.
  • Education: College degree in Education or fields related to outdoor environment or related field.
  • Experience: Outdoor work: 1+ years
  • Experience: Teaching children in grades K-12
