National Institutes of Health Nurse (Research Specialist) in Montgomery County, Maryland

Summary This position is located in the Intramural Clinical Management and Operations Branch (ICMOB), Division of Clinical Research (DCR), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will perform the following: Serve as a Nurse (Research Specialist) for the NIAID clinical research programs within DCR/ICMOB; representing NIAID to internal and external entities as a subject matter expert on assigned projects and programs, which can include the management of protocols related to human subject research and the collection and processing of human samples within the framework of NIH Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved clinical research protocols; Contribute to the development of policies and procedures to be applied to patient populations in a dynamic regulatory environment governing biomedical research; Direct and perform quality assurance and quality control activities as they relate to protocol adherence, protocol monitoring, data collection, data abstraction, and data analysis and ensure standard operating procedures reflect the highest standards of data integrity and patient safety; Oversee process improvement projects and programs, ensuring delivery within scope, timeline, and involvement of key stakeholders; develops and maintains project plans and schedules; collaborate with cross functional teams to achieve project goals; identify and mitigate potential risks and obstacles; and ensure adherence to best practices and NIH/NIAID policies and procedures. Serve as an expert consultant in matters related to the research process and specific, complex patient populations, and as an authority for a specified patient population, independently assessing acute and non-acute clinic problems and toxicities and appropriately consulting and collaborating with medical and multidisciplinary staff and colleagues from the specific institutes, departments or programs. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify for a Nurse (Research Specialist ) GS-610-13 position, you must have the following: Education Requirement: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure Requirement: You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN); AND Have a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional qualifications: You must have have at least 1 year of Nurse (Research Specialist) experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing guidance in comprehensive nursing, preventative, and therapeutic health care services to patients and family members; managing multiple clinical protocols within a research program (e.g., collecting research data/samples); training nursing staff in the administration of research programs, including the ethical and legal aspects of nursing care and clinical trials; aids in performing quality assurance and quality control activities as they relate to study adherence, study monitoring, data collection, data abstraction, and data analysis.
