Wage Range: $43.61 - $70.04 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, applicable education and internal equity.

Job Summary of Essential Functions:

Adheres to all Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Provides technical services to the Imaging Department in the performance of CT scan examinations. Provides technical assistance in CT to Radiologists. Participates in daily maintenance functions in the CT Department. Rotates call service support with CT staff. Maintains and documents continuing medical education credits as required by ARRT. Performs clerical tasks (filing, maintaining log-books, etc.). Performs other related duties incidental to the work described. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age, specific needs, and provide age-specific treatment care. Routinely demonstrates ALARA. Prepares contrast for administration, competent in venipuncture, checks for errors before booting scanners, and selects appropriate default file or scan prescription. Utilizes proper patient identification procedures prior to doing the exam; performs patient care duties as needed while the patient is under Imaging Service's care. Ensures that physician orders are obtained and appropriate.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology. ARRT registration required. Minimum of one year experience in Computerized Tomography or comparable training. Must have Washington State Radiology Technologist (RT) license. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

CT scanner, Power Injector, Vein access, life safety equipment, laser camera, and Tele-radiology. Ability to use computers, copiers, fax machines, etc. Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate, documentation of immunization/immunity against hepatitis B, and training related to blood-borne pathogens are required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials. Risk of exposure to communicable diseases, and risk of physical injury from lifting and moving patients and operation of radiological equipment; radiation exposure. Possible exposure to ionizing radiation.

WORK CONTACT GROUP: All hospital departments, patients, physicians, visitors, nursing personnel, and office staff.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher and transfer patients to CT scan table. Walks, stand, and sit for periods of time. Must be able to stoop, bend, push and pull. Must be able to communicate in the English language. Must possess visual, touch, and manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

SUPERVISED BY: Clinical Manager of Imaging.

Essential Functions:

  • Accurately performs general radiologic duties (fluoroscopy, surgery, tomography); performs C.A.T. scans.

  • Prepares contrast for administration, checks for errors before booting scanners, and selects appropriate default file or scan prescription.

  • Participates in "On Call" duties in the department or other modalities of demonstrated proficiency as necessary.

  • Utilizes proper patient identification procedures prior to beginning the exam; performs patient care duties as needed while patient is under Imaging Service's care.

  • Ensures that the patient is properly draped for procedure, transports patients to examining table, and explains procedure to the patient, including an explanation of possible side effects.

  • Demonstrate good critical thinking skills.

  • Vein access competency.

  • Provides or assists with orientation of new and existing staff as appropriate.

  • Reports changes in patient condition and reports unusual findings to appropriate personnel; alerts Radiologist to pathology which may require scan review before releasing patient.

  • Monitors work schedules and patient flow continuously to minimize patient delays; reports all incomplete work.

  • Interviews patient prior to the procedure to obtain a history, and confers with others to receive a complete clinical history.

  • Performs clerical tasks (filing, writing reports, scheduling patients, answering telephone); prepares a work activity report, maintains log book and documents procedures performed.

  • Ensures that physician orders are obtained and appropriate for the exam.

  • Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors when interacting with others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly and respectful resulting in favorable patient, physician and staff perceptions of the hospital and its employees.

  • Washes hands prior to and after each patient contact, as per VGH infection control policies, infection control, and isolation policies; wears protective clothing and a film badge, turning badge in for periodic evaluation.

  • Routinely demonstrates ALARA.

  • Maintains an adequate stock of supplies, takes inventory, orders supplies, and maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment; performs tube warm-up and calibration checks daily.

  • Disinfects equipment after each patient contact, inspects the working order of equipment on a regular basis, reports malfunctioning equipment and performs minor repairs.

  • Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Local 3000.
