General Information & Responsibilities

The Groundskeeper II provides maintenance services on campus roads and grounds including wooded areas at the Quad-Cities Campus and satellite sites. Provides snow and ice removal work during winter months, and provides other services as assigned.

Hours are Monday-Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm

Description of Duties

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Secures general instructions for work assignments from Assistant Facilities Superintendent.

  • Repairs and maintains all Quad Cities Campus and satellite site roadways, lots, and pathways.

  • Performs all outdoor grounds maintenance, mowing, irrigation, landscaping, pest disease control measures; inclusive of all trees, shrubbery, plants, etc.

  • Performs tree care for maintaining a healthy and safe environment; includes trimming, pruning, removal, etc.

  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the campus, including regular garbage collection.

  • Performs first level maintenance on all grounds equipment, vehicles, operation logs, and service records.

  • Performs snow and ice removal and salt spreading and utilizing all appropriate equipment and outdoor assignments during winter months.

  • Installs and repairs sod; seeds; applies fertilizer, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.

  • Operates power equipment, heavy equipment, and hand tools while observing College safety procedures.

  • Works overtime hours as needed.

  • Responsible for following all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.

  • Attends required trainings as needed.

  • Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:

  • Performs emergency acetylene welding repairs on vital equipment.

  • Coordinates and plans moving of College equipment; assembles equipment as needed.

  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies.

  • Builds and constructs items for the department.

  • Coordinates the removal of recycling materials, including delivery of materials; maintains records on program and implementation progress and coordinates recycle persons.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Works directly with the Assistant Facilities Superintendent and the Facilities Superintendent.

  • Works cooperatively with Maintenance and Custodial departments o help achieve goals in a cost-effective manner and provide quality service .

  • Works cooperatively with all others.

Education & Experience

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis required.

  • Valid driver's license

  • Agriculture or horticulture background with one or more years experience in a similar position required.

  • Ability to follow instructions with minimum supervision required.

  • Ability to read and understand operation manuals relating to equipment used.

  • Familiarity with acetylene welding preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others required.

  • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance or an interest in maintenance type work desired.

  • Must be neat in personal appearance and dependable in work habits

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule as the operational need arises.

  • Must be alert at all times and able to react calmly in an emergency

  • General Standards for Public Applicator Herbicide license as required by the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture Bureau of Environment Program (must obtain within 90 days of hire).

  • Ability to work under difficult conditions including inclement weather, and hazardous conditions.

  • Valid Illinois CDL driver license or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment preferred
