Job Title: TRAVEL Advanced Shipfitter (Multi-Pass Tack and Burn) ( TRAVEL TO NEWPORT NEWS, VA $120/day PER DIEM)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Advanced Shipfitter with expertise in multi-pass tack welding and burning. The ideal candidate will have four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class shipfitter. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency in welding, blueprint comprehension, and working in physically demanding environments.
Responsibilities
Perform single pass tack welding using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process.
Utilize oxygen/propane burning torches for cutting and heating tasks.
Comprehend and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, and datum lines.
Measure and understand fractional dimensions using a ruler.
Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly accurately.
Assemble structural piece parts according to specifications with high quality.
Work in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding and steel fabrication.
Adhere to OSHA regulations related to the shipbuilding industry.
Operate vibratory tools like grinders and needle guns.
Essential Skills
Four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class shipfitter.
Proficiency in single pass tack welding.
Experience with oxygen/propane burning and heating torches.
Ability to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches.
Skill in measuring fractional dimensions and laying off piece parts.
Capability to assemble structural pieces according to specifications.
Experience in physically demanding work environments.
Familiarity with OSHA regulations in the shipbuilding industry.
Ability to use vibratory tools such as grinders and needle guns.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
All candidates will be required to pass a Single Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test on their first day, which includes SMAW process, MIL--M (A-5A) filler metal, and tests in both vertical up (3F) and overhead (4F) positions.
The Welding School will administer additional tests including multiple pass tack welds, visual inspection of welds, and practical tests.

Work Environment
The work is performed in a shipyard environment, which is the largest shipbuilding company in the world, stretching over 5 miles long. Located in Southeast Virginia, the climate is hot and muggy during the summer and cool in the winter. Work may be performed on Navy vessels or in a shop environment. Candidates must be able to work any shift, including 1st shift (7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3:30pm-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am).

This is a 2 YEAR Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
