Safety Professional

Work Location : Missoula, MT

Pay range : $54,000 to $121,800 per year

Safety Professional I - Starting Range: $54,000 - $81,000

Entry-level safety position. Bachelor's degree relevant to safety or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Safety Professional II - Starting Range: $62,900 - $94,300

Mid-level safety position. Must have utility experience, relevant safety expertise, or bachelor's degree relevant to safety. A certification is preferred (CHST, CUSP, GSP, etc.). Bachelor's degree in safety or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered

Safety Professional III - Starting Range: $72,200 - $108,200

Mid-to senior level safety position. Must have utility experience. A certification is required (CHST, CUSP, ASP, or CSP). A GSP designation does not fulfill this requirement. Bachelor's degree in safety or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered

Senior Safety Professional - Starting Range: $81,200 - $121,800

Senior level safety position. Must have utility experience. A PE license, CSP or CIH certification is required. Bachelor's degree in safety or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered

The Safety Professional position monitors and ensures compliance with safety and health standards; promotes and impacts a positive safety culture; supports the general safety and health effort for all assigned areas; and, performs field environmental compliance activities.

    About this job:

  • Support management in deployment of existing safety products, and programs; develop approaches to address safety and environmental issues

  • Identify safety and environmental challenges and interact closely with employees at all levels to solve these issues

  • Be actively involved in and provide expert opinions on the safety aspects of plans, procedures, practices, standards, specifications, and systems to achieve optimal control or reduction of hazards and exposures, which may harm people, property, and/or the environment

  • Track and maintain records related to safely and environmental issues, including field safety observations, safety accountability interviews, and hazard tracking and correction systems

  • Assist in the investigation/analysis of incidents and prepare reports and presentations

  • Ensure, through continuous worksite reviews and inspections, that workplace conditions comply with all applicable NorthWestern Energy safety requirements and government regulations

  • Develop effective safety training and safety meeting materials; facilitate delivery of this information to assigned areas to provide knowledge and skills necessary to recognize hazards and perform their jobs safely and effectively

  • Identify conditions and actions (through hazard evaluations and job safety analyses) that may cause injury, illness, or property damage; recommend corrective actions; track issues until resolved

  • Identify ergonomic issues; recommend and implement ergonomic solutions; follow up to ensure effectiveness

  • Maintain knowledge of current NorthWestern Energy safety requirements and applicable government regulations (OSHA, DOT, etc.)

  • Represent the Company with presentations to the general public, contractors, and emergency responders regarding the potential hazards of electricity and natural gas

  • Work up to 40% of the time in an outdoor environment, travel up to 40% of the time (driving), and stay overnight up to 30%

  • Perform individual lifts and carries office supplies up to 35 pounds

    Am I right for this job? Here's the success profile:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the safety and health or a related field

  • Certification in safety (CSP) or industrial hygiene (CIH) preferred; must be willing to obtain in the future if not currently possessed. (Attainment date will be dependent on safety career path and will be specified by hiring supervisor)

  • Electric and natural gas utility experience preferred, but not required

  • Possess a valid driver's license

  • First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to acquire)

  • Commitment to safe working practices and knowledge of safety policies/procedures

  • Demonstrate and maintain an excellent safety record
