United States Steel Management Associate - Plant Processes in Minnesota

U. S. Steel has an opening for a Management Associate within the Process Control department in our taconite mining and processing facilities in Northern Minnesota . This position will be responsible for installing, configuring, and supporting hardware and software of various systems. The Management Associate program is our entry level program for college graduates to help accelerate their professional development. Management Associates are provided between 12-24 months of training across multiple functional areas with work assignments designed to assist in both personal and skill-set development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This is an entry level position on-premise position for someone starting their IT career.

  • This position will involve installation, configuration, and support of mobile Windows clients installed on remote equipment.

  • Responsibilities will also include basic networking configuration of various systems.

  • The applicant will also help support and configure 3rd party server software on Windows Server based OS’s.

  • Applicant must have good communication skills to work with both on-site personnel and 3rd party vendor systems for support.

  • The applicant will translate business requirements into industrial solutions and interact with personnel throughout the organization both as an individual and in a team environment.

    REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants with a minimum of an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or Equivalent Work Experience in the field of process control support will be considered.

  • The applicant will be able to support hardware, software, and basic infrastructure requirements in a heavy industrial mining environment.

  • Basic technology skills in IP networking and cabling support, Windows-based operating systems, server support, and storage management.

  • Database and SQL knowledge is a plus.

  • Must be a self-starter demonstrating excellent time management and organizational skills including the ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize multiple work activities, and work safely and independently in a heavy industrial environment with a strong focus on customer service.

  • Capable of providing oral and written communication interfaces with departmental management, operations management, operating crews, control system support personnel, external system support personnel, and others.

  • This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.

    Preferred Skills:

    We are looking for motivated self-starters that can work in a fast paced, data-driven environment. The successful undergraduate will be an analytical problem solver, have an extremely high level of customer focus and a passion for process improvement. In addition, a successful intern will have:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree, or Business Management Degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and an aptitude for your area of study.

  • A strong record of team, project and/or people leadership in a work setting and/or extracurricular activities.

  • A willingness to take initiative to understand the business.

  • An aptitude for problem solving; strong writing and verbal communication skills.

  • A strong commitment to excellence and to personal and professional growth.

  • Must be resourceful, responsible, tenacious, curious, independent, confident and high energy.

  • The ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
